Has it ever been a close call on the way to a supercharger when the battery was running low?
Congrats on your Tesla. Along with preconditioning your battery by navigating to a supercharger, you can also schedule preconditioning via the app on your phone. I precondition every morning before work about 30 minutes prior to departure. I primarily home charge now, so I just schedule my home charging as well. Scheduling during non-peak times is helpful on cost.
Thanks to all who have left comments. They are highly valued and appreciated. This will help all new Tesla owners as well as our journey forever and beyond!
You know you need to precondition the battery first, just navigate to a supercharger (about 30 minutes prior to arrival). You don't need a subscription, just a connection to wifi ... including Xfinity hotspots or you phone's hotspot. The subscription provides other features like satellite view on maps.
You're pretty high in the pack (68%) - the charging speeds you're getting are about right. You'll get higher speeds at like 10-20%. Like others have said, navigate to the Supercharger(s) and the car will get the battery to optimal temperature by the time you get there.
also another trick. If to tap the button on the end up the turn signal stick it will do the wipers once...but if you notice on the screen when you do that it pulls up a little screen with your wipe settings. So if you tap the button and immediate use the left scroll wheel you can scroll to the wipe speed you want. Without having to touch the screen and doing it through the menu. You can turn them off this way too. Tap the bottom on the end of the turn signal and scroll of the left scroll wheel to off.
So helpful! Thank you!
when backing up if you drag up on the screen when it shows the rear camera it will also pull up the rear side cameras
Thank you for that! Great info!
you can turn the map voice off if it gets annoying.
Great because it drive me nuts!
i have no range anxiety at all anymore. there are superchargers everywhere and its so seamless to fine them and to charge up.
That’s what we have experienced as well in such a short amount of time
you can push it a little more too. I was doing it between 15% and 90%. You are going to lose about 10% of battery life over time regardless. Pushing the battery is just going to speed up that time until you lose that 10%...after you lose that 10% it plateaus. At least thats how I understand it.
Makes sense ….Thank you for your feedback. It is truly valued!
you are fine charging in the cold. he tech is very smart. It will just charge slower til the battery warms up.
connectivity is provided by AT&T currently. Cellular only. Of course at most superchargers you are on the tesla provided wifi network, and when you are home it will connect to your wifi if you have it set up.
Navigate to the charger next time so the car knows it will be charging. It will start heating itself for faster charging early.
A couple tips, if you navigate to the supercharger on the screen it will start actively heating up the battery for faster charging regardless of outside temperature. Also the car charges much faster if you start charging at 20% or lower battery left, up to the 250kw. The slow speeds you are getting are not a charger limitation. Also lithium ion batteries have no memory effect. That's a characteristic from NiCD and NiMH batteries. But Li-ion batteries do not like to be at maximum voltage (%) for very long as it will degrade the battery over the life of it, hence the 80% recommendation for daily driving. There is a learning curve when switching to EV but once you get the hang of it its no big deal. Cheers.
Thank you for the incredible valued information! And being so kind! We are adapting to our Tesla. Your feedback is highly regarded and valued. Cheers!
8:33 LMAO the Biden impression was GOLDEN! 🤣
Thank you…..I just saw Dana Carvey impersonation is his best ever. We try to entertain as well as inform. We are going to do our next podcast episode on owning the Tesla. The podcast is The Original Red Pill Show and can be found on your favorite podcast distributor. You made me laugh! Thank you for your comments. It is much appreciated
Congrats on the new Tesla! Was it overall a smooth process buying it used through Carmax? I'm considering the used route, but may wait until mid 2025 as Tesla is supposed to announce production of (a) new, lower-priced model(s)
Car max is awesome. I have purchased over 30 some cars over the last 25 years. If I had any issues, they resolved them quickly. Car Max Auto Finance has never denied me for finance. I will not purchase a vehicle from anyone else. Just my opinion and experience. If you are located in Illinois, go to the Schaumburg location and ask for Gerry D. He will take care of you!
You'll be perfectly fine in cold weather, it just needs time for the car to heat itself. It can take an hour or more for the battery to heat to optimal temperature if you're starting with a cold battery. On a long drive, it'll take care of that in the background.
Awesome info! Thank you!
The battery charger is similar to the theater. At the beginning, people can get in quickly because there are lots of empty seats. At the end, people can't get into the theater as quickly because most of the seats are already taken. The battery charger is similar. If you charge the battery at 10%, the performance is much higher on the supercharger.
Awesome analogy. Thank you!
electricity pump lol
Yeah….thats going to take sometime to change that terminology. LOL. You are pretty sharp to catch that. Thank you for your comments
It does share the power when you charge at version 1 and 2 superchargers. It does not share power when you charge at version 3 and 4 superchargers.
Great info! Thank you. Good to know!
Wondering how come tesla dealer got 250 KW charger and tesla supercharger only give you 25-40 kw
It all depends on your battery level and condition at the time of charge. At 250kw locations, you do get that but not throughout your whole charging time. It will drop as your battery goes up.
it also depends on the temp of the battery. I will start out slow and as the battery warms up it speeds up. The tech is very smart to protect the battery.
Awesome feedback. Thank you all so much. I want to demystify the assumptions of owning a Tesla. Most of them are BS
Wow
great car :)
