We started the Orchard in 2004. Our goals were to provide the best quality apples for our area, help others grow apples, and create a wonderful family experience for our customers. We started by planting 300 apples trees and have continued to add every year with the latest and greatest varieties. The best part of our business is seeing our customers return year after year and watching their children grow.

Deer? What about the bears! 😱
Can you tell me the root depth and root span of dwarf fruit trees
Hello good looking!
A lot of comments about pruning standard tree and it’s lopsided. He’s not worried about those lower limbs on a standard as they will eventually be cut off later because you want upper branches to be out of reach of deer. And the other upper branches were cut to not compete with leader or they were wrong angle-too weak.
Wow Gilby! Excellent and informative tree video. I did not know about branches “following the compass“ with a north south east west directional. I don’t know anything about “hormone rings”. I’ll have to investigate what they are in their importance. Thank you so much for your passion and sharing with us your wisdom.
No idea why you took 2 lower branches off which formed a near perfect first scaffold..... Now it's all one sided...
First branch begins above his belly button. Have fun on the ladder.
Why would you ever make your four branches all be on the same side? Would make for lopsided tree both in weight and appearance.
The angle of the branch meeting the tree is extremely important for strength. He sacrificed overal tree form for branch strength.
Great video thanks 🙂
Seems like he cut everything off one side?
That's just to get it started. Branches would grow out the other side he'd keep if they were strong in following years.
You might consider trading the bleach for alcohol it's a lot easier on your skin. Perhaps you have some bad ass microbes who will just drink the alcohol. Then I would stick to the bleach.
I'm living in MN (zone 4 B ). I got some Asian pear trees. I watched a lot of clips about pruning. I'm confusing about that. What's different between summer pruning and winter pruning? which one for more fruit and which one for shape
Winter pruning is basically giving the tree its shape. I dont know if youre having your a. Pears in a V shape or as a regular standard and keeping it short. Like getting rid of crossing, rubbing or dead branches. In the summer, youre taking off the new growth back to where theres going to be bud set. Youll see the new soft growth and follow it back to a set of bud eyes. Which are pointy growth with a leaf or two. The new growth wont have flowers yet for a couple of years. So if you want to maintain the tree size prune the new growth back to a bud set growth or leave it be and have your a. Pear tree get bigger. The same rules goes for all fruit trees.
thank you!
Do you recommend trying to find dwarf trees from Nurseries or just to buy online? Im having trouble finding nurseries that know what the rootstock actually is.
I like superthrive it works fantastic
Hi what's the reason for four branches.
Very good demo, many thanks! Music is best left out of any DIY demo video. It only distracts and makes it hard to hear.
can you only prune in the fall? My tree already has leaves starting - is it too late for this season?
Best to do a heavy prune in fall after fruiting or in winter. Once you in late spring, do a light pruning. In summer, leave it alone.
Here's an excellent video on summer pruning: ua-cam.com/video/9ioGcl7gHgc/v-deo.html
One of best videos for home owners.

thanks for info.
For dwarf trees should you plant a stake in the ground first?
Is this stuff considered organic? If not, what might be an organic alternative?
So just to verify since it wasn't shown in the video, you dig a hole but then put a small cone/pyramid shape mound of dirt in the middle of it to support the inner part of the roots?
This was pretty cool, would love to see a video on how to choose a root stock
