One century after the first vines were planted, Seavey Vineyard was established. Once again, the land would be groomed to grow world-class wines, not to satisfy modern trends, but to honour age-old winemaking traditions, following classic Bordeaux methods. “Seavey is on...

The scene about the use of smoker in beekeeping which never made its way to the final cut of the ODE TO THE BEEKEEPERS. Still too good to be left in the archives in my view. Malcolm is a Chair of Aberdeen and District Beekeepers’ Association, and the person who kindly and so wisely suggested the cast to the “Ode to the beekeepers” film. It was Malcolm who linked us with Sandy Gordon, Sarah and Martin Leahy as well as David Morland. And it was Malcolm who quite literally carried the heaviest load in this film;) Premiere on Burns Night - 25/01/2021 on Granite Town Fi...

Very Interesting Video. Thank You for taking the time to make this Facinating Film anout Black Bees (AMM) ! 🐝 I'm lucky to have Bees with a High % of 'Native Black Bee' in them. Not been Tested (Yet !) Can a Hobbyist Beekeeper access Genetic Sequencing from BeeBytes (?) Also have a well renown Bee Farm near by who also have Black Bees. Third Generation Beekeeping Family ! We are lucky to still have Wild Areas here in the Scottish Borders. As the Film Commentators suggested : Raise your 'Own Queens' ! I did plenty of this, this Summer, of 2024. Started with x5 Hives. And to date have x 14 Hives & Nucs. I have Bees on National, Langstroth & Warre (on Frames rather than Top Bars !) My Bees come through Winter well. Minimum losses over the last x4 Seasons. No outgoing Swarms either (!) I think Local Bees, kept locally are Calm, Hard Working, and Prosper nicely. Allow them to make their own Comb Needs (minimal use of Worker Foundation !) : Only Starter Strips, or a Trickle of Wax, will allow the Colonies to build the Cells that they need (!) Same goes for Queen Rearing. Use your best Hive : choose Bees in all Stages (BIAS) and make QC's from that Material. Finally, I like to leave as much Capped Honey and surrounding areas of Bee Bread for the Colony to over Winter on. Any Surplus Honey is retrieved and taken the following Spring. . . What I have learnt from using Warre Hives, and now do to my other Hives too. Applies to another Hive I have. A Horizontal Hive on Jumbo Deep Langstroth Frames. Comes through each Winter Year in, year out. . . 😎 Am able to Teach others the Art of Beekeeping on a 'Hobby' level. Past on the Skills ! Read your Bees, their Hives, their Ways. And the Beekeeper will learn a lot via Observation and best Practice in return. 👌
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your knowledge and devotion to AMMs breeding. Yes - "breeding your own queen - is Beekeeping" as Andrew Abrahams (Black Bee reserve said). As for me, I will continue the Beekeeping/Honey series (although I am not practising beekeeper myself), so stay tuned because more content and news are coming in 2025. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
It's not quite correct to say the drone is a clone of the queen @31:50 (it's mother). The queen has 32 chromosomes (16 from it's mother and 16 from its father). Her son (the drone) has only 16 (all from his mother as he came from an unfertilised egg). It would be more correct to say that a large number of her drones approximates to her genotype...or...the average effect is to approximate to her genotype.
I stopped watching when I learnt you are clipping your Queens wings, Im a Bee watcher.
Wonderful film... really enjoyed it..
@@Muffhoney thank you🙏🏻
Thank you Gavin for the opportunity to buy one of the most delicious honey today. Best of luck with raising the awareness of protecting the native bees. 🐝👌
Nice to meet you yesterday Gavin - beekeepers are terrific
I see beehives on the background. Being a beekeeper myself I wonder if tabaco plant produce any pollen/ fourage fot the bees? Have you noticed any bee activity around the plants?
Great video! ❤❤❤
So drones inharite DNA from the queen only, correct?
Good to see. Hilarious to watch people on a windy, remote Scottish islands wearing useless masks!
2024 and still wearing the useless mask.
Really informative. 31.02 is nice way of education
Very informative indeed❤
Good job👍 Thank you🙏
Nice one Gavin.
Well done! We have just released a similar video about the Maltese Honey Bee. Later this year, we will release a version in English! ua-cam.com/video/PYmKpkSzJTQ/v-deo.html
👍
Excellent video. Great production, well structured and informative content!
I'm a beekeeper from America. Sounds heroically awesome what you're doing. Maybe try working with hobbyists in the different parts of Scotland, make it easier for them to get climate adapted blackbee queens than the imports. Winter is my enemy over here, and a lot of work goes into making sure the girls are alive in the spring. Cold weather adapted bees are so worth the effort. Good luck!!!!
Beautiful job!
Thank you for this presentation. I learned some vital information.
Thank you for creating this film. It was a pleasure to watch such a well produced piece on an important matter. I keep AMM in North Wales. We went up to visit Andrew in June 2022 which was an amazing experience. Our local bee keepers association is also strongly committed to breeding native bees.
It's really great to see such an interesting video, which states all the issues around the black bee. Well done!
The immigration policies for bees are stricter than people.
The economic interests is all that matters to government it's the same with wild Atlantic salmon decline economics favour the highly polluted salmon farms here in west of Scotland mainly
Great video, I’m new to bee keeping and I’m very keen to keep only Black Bees
If every bee keeper was to raise just two queens a year. Nice one Andrew!
First video I've seen from this channel, incredibly well made and very informative. Was very surprised when I checked your other videos and the trailer for this was released nearly a year ago. Judging by all the masks much of the filming is from even several years ago. Awesome dedication to keep working on something like this for such a long time
Took me almost three years this one. Glad you liked it✋🏻
@@gappo1301 I thoroughly enjoyed it, very well made. As an American all I knew was that the honey bee is actually invasive to the North American continent. I had no idea that the black bee even existed, or even any of the other types of bees, I've only ever known of "European" honey bees or "Africanized" bees. Super informative, and very well done. For what it's worth I think the effort to save at least some pockets of original species is well worth the effort. Can't wait to see more content, cheers
Wonderful video - thank you
Well worth the wait from when the trailer was teased.
🥰🥰🥰😍
What a lovely 41 minutes. Thank you, from a beekeeper.
He’s so hot what’s his ig?
wow great video may I ask what mic did you use for the interviews
Just how I felt back in 2003! Very brave to admit you were prepared to die. So was I but couldn’t tell my wife and kids that!! Well rowed.
Great Episode post SAS Who Who Dares Wins. Just goes to show ..she's still getting after it!

Lovely portrail of a very talented artist. I loved the bit where the self portrait morphed into the real Gerry.
So nice to hear you speaking about your work Gerry. Beautiful wee film.
Gerry, you are indeed an artist, and a very talented one too. Great little film. Nick

Absolutely true philosophy that he has, and his inner strength is beautiful and strong as well. I wish him well through life and thank you for another inspirational video.
Thank you for watching. You’ve put it all very accurately - that inner strength is remarkable and his philosophy is from good, and he is just a decent guy all round.
