Curious About Recruitment? How to Organise a Chat with a Consultant
When you're trying to start your recruitment career and get your foot in the door with an agency, the research that you've done and the knowledge you can display of the role is SO important.
When agencies choose to invest in hiring rookies, they want to feel like you know what you're getting into and that you'll be committed and stay. They're looking at you for the long term, not for just 2-3 months when you decide this isn't the job you thought it was.
So one of the things that can massively help your applications and boost your performance in interviews is speaking to a current recruitment consultant. It's a great way to learn about the role, warts and all, from someone who is in the thick of it now.
At this point you might be thinking, 'well how the hell do I go about getting that organised?!'...we do not worry, because this video will answer that exact question for you!

Thanks a lot for these great advice, Iam shifting my career nowadays from sales into HR in pharmaceutical industry and I wasn’t sure which HR function would suit me the best and I guess it’s recruitment, maybe start looking for that specially , thanks again.
That's really interesting, I used to recruit for sales roles in the pharma industry. Yes have a look for dual roles or Talent Acquisition - a lot of pharma companies have those functions.
@@kateoneillrecruitmentcoaching what do you by dual roles like sales and recruitment together?! Or recruitment & talent acquisition?!
@@raniayousef58 I meant a HR role with recruitment responsibilities - as it's not always a big part of the job depending on the organisation you join. I've trained someone before who worked in HR but they had a 50/50 split between that and recruitment.
@@kateoneillrecruitmentcoaching got it, totally agree, thanks so much for ur valuable advice ❤️
@@raniayousef58 no problem 😊
Thanks so much for the shoutout, Kate! 🙌We’re thrilled to see you highlight the time-saving hacks our CRM offers-especially the extension and duplicate check features. We're all about making recruiters’ lives easier, and it’s awesome to hear that you found it helpful. Your demo shows exactly why we designed it this way-efficiency at its best!
I'm really enjoying exploring the platform and seeing how easy it is to use as well...more videos with my favourite features to come!!
Hi Kate, we're using Bullhorn and it's really good. We can't afford the full package as we're funded by local authority but if you buy a basic package, it is a massive help. It's very complex, or it can be, but also intuitive. That said, I have only ever used Bullhorn so I don't have anything to compare it with. Best, Attila
@@torma1985 yes I've used Bullhorn a bit with some of the agencies I work with. It's also a very good one, but I find Recruit CRM slightly easier to navigate. I get exposed to so many different ones and see the good and the bad, thought it would be good to flag the standouts. Good that you get yours funded, that's a huge help

I have an interview for a trainee recruitment consultant face to face tomorrow is there any advice?
@@jessieharvey935 watch my video on interview tips for sure! But just be yourself and remember you're interviewing them as much as they are you, make sure it's a company that's providing training and will support you while you learn.
That's good point ,not just from Rec sales perspective, also from an HR philosophy of motivation !

Trainee IT recruiter here. Been trying to land my first job for six months, but its so difficult without having any experience 😢
@@Bren-m3s it can be so hard getting your foot in the door sometimes, you're not alone 🖤. Feel free to email me your CV and we can book in a chat, I'd love to help.
Just stumbled across this vid when searching for answers. Seasoned Recruiter here and in a real slump at the moment where I've had my last 8 (EIGHT) offers out to candidates all rejected, one after another (in an industry where candidates generally only get one or two offers in their job search). Varied reasons as to why the offers have been rejected, but finding myself constantly beating myself up and questioning whether I can even do this job. This vid was a nice reminder to keep a calm head and not dwell, things will turn round eventually! (Right? 😂)
There must be something in the air today Ashley...because I have been feeling a similar way myself. You are not alone; however long we've been in this game for, we get days/weeks like this where it feels like one thing after another and as a result our confidence takes a hit. Things will get better and don't ever question if you can do your job or not! I have a couple of videos on mindset that might help you as well, but I ran a workshop recently that I have a recording of which I think might help you too. If you'd like the link, drop me an email and I'll send it to you 🙂🙂.
Looking forward for the next video.
Thanks for watching!

An ironic exemplar of job descriptions out there being posted, asking for all the experience in the world but not providing any - Clearly Jordan knows & has proved that skills can be transferred and the most valuable experience one gets is "FROM 'DOING' THE JOB" otherwise how would he have learned these things in the first place? As you say Kate; "Champagne & Razor Blades". Furthermore, as MANY Top Voices like Carla Harris (Morgan Stanley) said; 'Your HUMAN talent is your best talent' - Finding the right 'PERSON' for the job! Or... If nothing's being learned then people can feel free to trust the AI written CVs & cover letters. The heart and humanity has to be there otherwise these bits of paper are worthless. AI is great if you want quantitative results. It's case studies like these, 'conversations' like this that reinforce qualitative performers! Nice one Jordan!
Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Some amazing tips Kate, thank you, you have really helped me
No problem at all, I'm glad you found the video useful. I've actually made an updated version of this very recently, so you might like that one too 🎉
As someone who’s due to start as a trainee recruiter next month your videos are incredibly helpful
I love to hear this! This is exactly why I started the channel 🫶. Best of luck in your new role, exciting times! 🎉
Do you think it's possible to succeed in opening your own recruitment agency with no recruitment experience if I learn sales, cold calling, cold emailing, and do a recruitment course? What else do recruitment trainee roles teach in recruitment companies so I can make sure I get it all covered?
Are you opening the agency in a sector you have experience working in? I would personally get a bit of experience working in an agency first so you have an idea of what's involved/what it's like. You could start the business and realise you don't actually enjoy recruiting! 6 months would be plenty of time, and that will give you a taste of skills needed and how you want to run your business. It is doable, but running and starting a new business is tough and adding that extra layer of you not having any recruitment experience might make it even harder. They teach the knowledge side, but you also learn the resilience needed as well as the right attitude and work ethic needed to survive. Again, you could learn that setting up yourself, but doing it in someone else's environment means if it's not for you you've got options

why do they hire the least experienced workers into gatekeeping positions for hiring it makes zero sense but here we are
People have to deal with gatekeepers at all levels, not just newbies. We all have to start somewhere, even experienced consultants were new to gatekeeper conversations at one point. If we don't train the trainees early, they'll struggle to get ahead in their BD.
Super excited watching. I find this conversation important for sales people
It's so important isn't it? We get objections across the whole recruitment process, so this will help with candidates as well as clients
