First Time DIY Boat Seat Reupholstering
Join me as I take on the challenge of completely reupholstering a sun-damaged boat seat from start to finish. Despite having little to no prior experience with upholstery, the transformation turned out amazing! Watch as I tackle every step of the process and prove that with a bit of effort, anyone can bring their boat seats back to life.
🛠️ *Materials & Tools* (some are affiliate links)
- Tan vinyl by the yard: www.deckmate.com/products/tan-boat-seat-vinyl
- Seam ripper kit: amzn.to/3DVsaJ4
- Singer 04801 heavy sewing needles: amzn.to/40ioWqO
- Coats outdoor thread: amzn.to/4jnkOOL
- Cutting mat: amzn.to/4aD22zf
- Upholstery silk wrap: amzn.to/3WLckaP
- Arrow 506M1 T50 3/8" monel marine staples amzn.to/42jwo7A
- Arrow PT50 pneumatic staple gun: amzn.to/3DVVpLX
- Highly recommend if you have an air compressor
- Arrow T50 manual staple gun: amzn.to/40ev4jI
- Gets the job done, but probably a good idea to go with a shorter staple depending on how hard the material is that you are stapling into.

Ripped Boat Seat Stitching Hole Repair

An up close look at how I repaired a seam on my pontoon boat seat where the fabric ripped between thread holes. Using this methodology I built a 148’ end fed long wire dipole elevated from 30’ to 70’. This technique allows one to raise and lower the antenna from both ends allowing examination, repair, tuning, experimentation etc. After installing an in line grounded coax lightening arrestor from the 9:1 unun I was pleased that my SWR had not changed. I hoisted both ends of my dipole and was back up and running. This build finally complete.

    I bought the Arrow pneumatic stapler as well after using a Ryobi battery powered one and a manual stapler that just couldn't do the job nicely. It works great! Plus it has that nose on it that allows you to staple into tight spots, which I needed for the ATV seat cover I was replacing.

    The other version of the board is a copy of the Alctron MA-1 circuit. That has the ability to short out pins 2 and 3 on the input to disable the microphone but the MA-1 case did not bother to put a switch on the outside. As CL-1 eventually also decided not to add the disable switch,so the final board does not have the jumpers.

    This box has a lot of potential, but I’ve had numerous problems with this. First is getting ghosted by customer support. Secondly, the audio for the Nextgen channels does not work unless you have a Roku Ultra. Do not buy the Ultra LTE version from Walmart; it will not work. Will also not work with lesser Roku models. Also, the channels that are encrypted are not supported on the HD home run. This is a complete opposite of the Zapperbox. One more thing - the internet connection it needs isn’t wireless. The one benefit this has over the Zapperbox that you have one tuner and one antenna that you can place anywhere and have over the air television on every TV in your house that has a Roku or a Firestick. I keep mine behind the bed in the upper floor bedroom with an amplified Channel Master flat panel antenna in the window facing most of the towers.

    I have the same conduit in my house. I am so happy the builder in 1996 thought of this. I plan on just buying an antenna to put in the attic. The conduit comes down close to where our coax setup (that we only use for one cable router).

    • @MostlyBuilds
      @MostlyBuilds Місяць тому

      Ah nice! I’ve wondered how common it is to put in conduit like this for future use. I’m appreciative that they did this for my house, but also confused why they didn’t put two drops since you can’t run high and low voltage wires in the same conduit. I assume it was put there in case someone wanted to finish the attic. Maybe they only expected romex to be run through it. Shrug.

    Is there a way to remove the default Plex live tv streams? Or do you think they are a value-add and I should keep them in if I’m setting this up for an older family member?

    • @MostlyBuilds
      @MostlyBuilds Місяць тому

      What happens if you go to Settings -> Online Media Sources. There are two options here for LiveTV and Movies & Shows. You might need to do that from the plex web app (not sure). I haven't tried this, but it might be what you are looking for. Hard to say if it would be better to turn it off or not. Probably really depends on the family member and their ability to understand the difference. You could always leave it on initially and see if they get confused. Otherwise just shut it off. Maybe ask them if they find it confusing?

    Some points: (1) HDHomerun Flex 4K doesn't pick up encrypted ATSC 3.0 channels. (2) Don't bother connecting this tuner to Plex or Emby as neither support Dolby AC4. So, if you are able to watch the video stream on ATSC 3.0 non-encrypted channels you won't hear anything. (3) The HDHomerun app works ok on the iPhone. Unfortunately, there was no HDHomerun app for my Samsung TV. (4) Some of the audio streams for ATSC 1.0 channels sound terrible. As if the sound is coming from a tin can. If your goal is to stream ATSC 1.0 content throughout your house using a Plex or Emby server and you don't care about NextGenTV then this is a good product. However, if you want to experience NextGenTV then something like the Zapperbox would be a better choice. Keep in mind that ATSC 3.0 is a mess. There are currently no 4K channels. The broadcasters want to encrypt the channels and they want everyone to get internet access when watching broadcast tv to get the encryption keys over the internet.

    • @MostlyBuilds
      @MostlyBuilds Місяць тому

      I have never heard of the 2SK389 until now. It appears to be discontinued by Toshiba and the LSK389 was explicitly built by Linear Systems to replace it. The specs look pretty similar. It might be worth a shot to try it. Curious that you are able to find this part and not the new one that’s still in production. Using a different part might work, but it’s definitely possible that it could sound different. Try it at your own risk! Good luck!
