A Tour of the Iconic Taj Mahal: India's Must-See Wonder
Welcome to the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World - a monument that needs no introduction. This is our final destination on our golden triangle tour.
Situated in Agra, India, the Taj Mahal is a mausoleum that was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of the monument began in 1632 and took 22 years to complete.
The Taj Mahal is considered one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture, which blends Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles. The monument is made of white marble and features intricate designs and carvings, including delicate pietra dura inlay work, which involves the use of semiprecious stones to create intricate patterns and designs.
The Taj Mahal's construction was a massive undertaking, involving thousands of workers and craftsmen. Legend has it that Shah Jahan had the hands of the artisans who worked on the Taj Mahal cut off after the monument was completed, to prevent them from ever creating anything as beautiful again.
Today, the Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts millions of visitors every year. It's considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is a symbol of love and devotion.
