It certainly was a bold departure from the status quo and I imagine that there would have been quite a few people in the 18th century who would have been appalled by the decor inside this place. But, like it or not, I think it is refreshing to have a few stately homes and royal palaces that break the mould and give us something unique to see.

Yes, you are right, it doesn't look as grand from the outside as it does inside. While it looks exotic, especially when seen from the gardens, from other angles it gives off a vibe of a seaside amusement arcade.

Considering the location, it's excellent value. While it's far from perfect, it's a big step up from anything else nearby in this price bracket.

Thought so as it's changed a bit there got new locks and bed runners and cushions and some rooms got new beds and furniture

@@denisewhetter3745 That sounds like a good improvement. New furniture would certainly make a big improvement to this place.

It would have been a great experience to have seen it back then.

@@EnglandRover Yes it was way before the renovation so it was a bit musty and not laid out like it is today. It was still a lovely evening with piano and poetry, very Bloomsbury ! My partner at the time was being painted by Isobel Strachey, an old eccentric and we lived in Glebe Place next door to Bernard Neville. Do you know anything about that amazing house in Glebe Place build with reclamed materials ? When I visited Glebe Place to see my old home I saw this house and for the life of couldn't remember it but then read that despite it's appearance it is relatively recent. Would love to know more about it.

Oh, I'll need to re-watch my video. What have I said about it? :) Regardless of how I've described it, I think most people would want to visit Leighton House after seeing a video or photos of its interior.

@@EnglandRover Oh I'm only joking don't worry! It's just when people describe a museum etc as "secret" or "hidden" I always wonder about the people whose job it is to make sure it isn't secret or hidden. But I am only kidding 😁

I called it a hidden secret because I used to walk past here every day when I lived in London and never knew what was inside.

I think it is constantly undergoing some sort of renovation. The Saloon underwent a major restoration between 2016 and 2018, and it would have looked much different prior to this renovation.

They have twin and double rooms but I wanted to stay in the smallest hotel room that I could find in London so I booked the single.

Custard Creams and Bourbon/Chocolate Creams always seem to be the best value. Only the wafer biscuits are cheaper but we have to draw the line somewhere.

There is no charge to actually ride the pods so you can hop on the pod at Terminal 5 and ride it to the car park but without the code to get past the gate and into the hotel, you'll just be stuck in the car park and have to ride back to the terminal. If you're staying at the Thistle hotel, you'll need to contact the hotel and they will give you a code to get through the gate when you arrive at Station B and add the cost to your bill. If you're not staying at the hotel (or parking in the pod car park) but just want to ride the pods, then that is totally free.
