I have fond memories of this amp. I grew up with an AU-777A which we purchased new in October 1970. It gave us 25 years of faithful service until we were told the volume balance control which became corroded was not replaceable. I am with an audiophile group and we have certain questions about Sansui history. I am wondering if any of the ex-Sansui technicians could assist us.
That amp gives me a chub.

Indeed ! if you want that vintage sound, go with vintage gear - you don't need all that speed bring good sound from your record turntable to the speakers. Unless you want streaming digital music - modern HiFi gear is the better way.

Is not a question how old is or was it. I hear over b+w 803 and NHB-108+Marantz Series 7 or Cary and be happy. But if I see the prices of some new products, I think that must be a joke 🤪 20- over 500k USD… only for Speakers 🔊… I be not a owner of a castle 🏰 😤
@@FDKAUSW Indeed sir ! with vintage hifi equipment, you only spend a fraction of that. A set of nicely restored Sansui integrated amp (with phono section and MC trans) plus a set of vintage speakers probably is within US$5k only. Also as we age (40-50 yrs old) our hearing is not as good, we can't hear all the frequency range as we used to. Sounds very boomy.
Good ears ! If you zoom in on the triple tone control - you can see that mid range and treble is set at +2 while bass is set at +6 ! Of cos when you bring it down to +2 it will become less boomy like you said. That’s the beauty of the Triple Tone Control for Sansui

@@vintagejapanhifi_real Sorry, you are correct. By the way, I had an A-350 in 1973 which the band I was in used to record some live shows thanks to the line-in mic jacks. The sound quality was outstanding!

If you have prerecorded cassettes, I say very good. If you recorded them, so you have the original source, why you would need to listen a recording when you have the original?
Thanks for the comment ! They are actually recent original cassette release (not dubbed from CD or vinyl) except for the first jazz segment - it came from with the deck from my Japanese sound engineer friend (that’s a live recording he recorded with Japanese jazz artist on set). I got into the idea of listening to tapes again after watching the Japanese movie “Perfect Days” by Wim Wenders 😉

Indeed ! It’s a shame they have fallen during the 90s and was struggling, in the end had to sell off the company but they made great amps during the 80s~90s golden era of the Japanese HiFi boom. A few survived like Luxman.
