The Kalb Report
Приєднався 22 вер 2010
The George Washington University, Harvard University, and the National Press Club have produced 72 forums in the The Kalb Report series since 1994. This highly acclaimed public affairs series is hosted by the distinguished journalist/scholar Marvin Kalb. Through one-on-one interviews and panel discussions emanating from the main ballroom of the National Press Club before audiences comprising several hundred students and professionals, Kalb explores topics at the intersection of press, politics, and public policy. Guests have included Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour, Walter Cronkite, Jim Lehrer, U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, Nobel Prize winner Eli Wiesel and documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.
The Kalb Report: Remembering a March, a Movement and a Dream
Fifty years after the historic March on Washington, moderator Marvin Kalb and a distinguished panel of civil rights legends, journalists and scholars explore the movement that changed the nation, the role of the press in the struggle, and how the lessons learned can be applied in the digital age.
As witness to history, Mr. Kalb was on the National Mall covering the event, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s historic "I Have a Dream" speech, for Walter Cronkite and CBS News. Joining Mr. Kalb are NAACP Chairman Emeritus Julian Bond, U.S. Congressman John Lewis, Ambassador Andrew Young, PBS NewsHour Anchor Gwen Ifill, Morehouse College President Dr. John Wilson, and journalist Dorothy Gilliam, the first African American woman hired as a reporter at The Washington Post (1961-1965).
Julian Bond, NAACP Chairman Emeritus
Congressman John Lewis
Ambassador Andrew Young
Gwen Ifill, PBS NewsHour Anchor
Dr. John Wilson, Morehouse College President
Dorothy Gilliam, Journalist

What a brave and valuable soul. So refreshing when there's an honest and open conversation. Thanks for all you do, Lara.
The censoring is silly
Did dose dude 🎉politician remembar what we have in camon🎉🎉?
Now you can tell the TRUTH DAN.
BRIEF BLOG: THE HAYDAY OF TV NETWORK NEWS IS LONG OVER. THE LATE WALTER CRONKITE HAS PASSED ON, SO HAS THE LATE PETER JENNINGS OF ABC NEWS. ONCE DAN RATHER RETIRED IN SPRING 2005, THE QUALITY OF TV NEWS HAS GONE DOWN THE TOILET! CNN IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE, & THE CABLE NETWORKS MAGAZINES HAVE BECOME TALKING HEADS W/A LIBERAL BIAS & WHEN YOU COMBINE LEFT LEANING LATE NIGHT TV TALK SHOWS, IT'S A MUDDLED MESS! I HOPE/PRAY FOR BETTER DAYS. (RIP) PETER JENNINGS & THE LATE WALTER CRONKITE.

Very interesting. Thank you for posting it.
The great thing about You Tube is mI can scroll and never hopefully never see Rather agian
What's the frequency Kenneth?
And what would Rather ( Rattler) know about Excellency in Broadcasting?
There's definitely something compelling about Donald Rumsfeld. I must say i'm pretty amazed by his quick-wit and his ability to come up with smart answers to very difficult questions like at 20:56 . He was a remarkably articulate and intelligent man albeit a dangerous power-craved one but i guess that's anything but a surprise; people who managed to get to the top are not to be expected to be dummies.
fuck dan rather biased
These two are so deluded
What a disgraceful human being I hope when they both meet their maker that have to answer for all their lies absolutely disgusting
Who?
I agree. Dan rather told lies right from the beginning. His reporting sucked too. He claimed others were injured too, but they were brought to the hospital much later. It still angers me to this day when I look at footage of his reporting. It's almost as if he was some how involved. Like he was told to deliberately lie and make misleading statements.
Thank you.
Optimism; Skepticism and Cynicism. Such a thrill listening to you Thomas Friedman on being Ethical and remaining Optimistic for others as well.
Free and vigorous press: thank you, 'Integrity, your word is your bond'.
Integrity; courage and character are still fundamentals. Education enables us to be successful in endeavors of the future, keep curiosity. Thank you David McCullough, ' your memory will always be a blessing'.
They’re welcome to their opinions on politics. We all have them. But I came here to learn and not get lectured to.
🙏🙏🙏 Why aren't your video views increasing? And not reaching people? The reason is 1. Your video is not being SEO properly 2. Your video is not reaching the right people 3. Not using video hashtags properly 4. Not sharing the video on social media There are a few more reasons. That's why your videos are limited to your channel. Can't get out In a word, your video is awesome. such videos are in great demand. If you do these things correctly. Hopefully you will get a lot of visitors. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. If i can help a wonderful person like you. Feel lucky. I will cooperate with you in all kinds. I am waiting your reply,,,,,,,
If you don't believe the conspiracy theories, you are obviously part of the conspiracy. How convenient!
How transparent can one individual be? Now, Dan Rather there with a straight face and referred to the Iraqi War as the "worst", arguably because it was a Bush presidency that precipitated the war. Yet unarguably the Vietnam War was 10 times more costly and brutal. But those were Democratic presidents. Believable. Absolutely believable..
Helen Thomas......there will never be another
What would you say about Trump after his many successes as President?
I don't know when this was recorded but, sadly, Mr. Bond, Ms. Ifill, and Congressman Lewis have since passed on, alas, as I'm sure most viewers know.
This is from 2013. I was there in person when the episode was taped.
@@JR101A Thank you.
I really admire this strong international cnn corespondant. Her political points of view open my mind and rich my education.!!!
In hindsight was that coup in Egypt really such a big deal? I mean what has changed in Egypt since then? For the better? I guess it was a big story to her because she's from Africa herself
Bombshell the movie - “Ethics” LoL
If Roger Ailes can see fox. News now
This was full of far more interesting insights into Jim Lehrer than the various tributes paid to him this week when he passed away. Outstanding interview!
Very courageous woman and irresistible too
Walter Isaacson is a generational mind and never suffers from that undiagnosed mental illness of nostalgia. Thus he's not going to bemoan the role of tech and the internet in journalism whereas the NYT can't go a week without running a the-internet-is-evil piece. And Kalb's people are not that TV savvy, Walter. Yes, they put all the gals with short skirts and great legs in the front row but the cut-aways were all faces of ugly old people. 😂 🤣
And, Marvin, I am only able to watch your program because it's right here on the Internet. And perhaps you might rethink using the word, virile, in describing the benefits of journalism 😂 🤣 Sadly, I heard of Kennedy's assassination from a child in Huntsville, AL, who was skipping along repeating, "Kennedy's dead, shot in the head!" My dad was working on Apollo and we were part of an invasion of Yankees to AL. So much for that being a more civil time than now.
Great interview and Koppel makes some outstanding points. MSNBC, for example, doesn't even have a newscast. It's as if they dropped the news reporting from the New York Times, only kept the opinion section, and only kept those opinion writers who always agree with one another.
Yes, most history is, as he says, political history and military history rather than cultural history. Even more important, though, is something most historians avoid: money. Yes, he touches on financial history in his list of the neglected topics, but money has been the prime mover of human events. Why is that aspect neglected? In the U.S. it's to avoid being labeled a Marxist historian. And some simply find the subject distasteful for goodness knows what reason.
Ron Chernow has written about finance.
Going through these exceptional interviews, if you come to this one after the one with Katie Couric it's like going from the superficial to the authentic. A bit snarky but Couric is a crafted media creation meant to please, still relying on the hair swish, short skirts, nice legs and never actually saying anything. Ms. Amanpour otoh is an actual journalist, as real as they get, possessing a level of insight and intellect beyond the comprehension of mere talking heads.
Bit of an empty vessel when she doesn't have a script.
Blaming Barney Frank? Chris Dodd? Blame your network bosses for making you rich too, I suppose. He'd later blame Jesus Christ for abandoning him. Not kidding. And his story about the protests in Buenos Aires put down with real bullets was later proven false. Also, Bob Schieffer was there. But that all came out after this interview. And it's a great interview. Marvin Kalb went after O'Reilly and never let up. In fairness, O'Reilly parried well on several occasions too.

I started to follow her programs on CNN since primary days. She went to cover a program on King Hussein of Jordan with Rose at the CNN center. She is my mentor.I want to be like her.
this is such nonsense. Ailes crafted Foxnews to appeal to middle aged Christian racist White men
In real life, he looked like Alfred Hitchcock. I am saying "real life" because I am watching The Loudest voice.
Great mini series. Roger Ailes was a liar period and lied to get what he wanted instead of reporting True facts!
This guy was a plague to America
Exactly! He did nothing good only spread hate!
Died from shame and legacy will be predator not genius newsman.
They lost me when they started blasting Trump. McCullough needs to stay the HELL OUT OF POLITICS!!
And I'm sure both gentlemen felt the loss keenly.
A horrible stupid interviewer !! Read out of a paper during the whole interview. Basically he is not prepare
Kale let Roger talk
So much ass kissing
Exceptional program...great job
What an inspiring woman!
