    If she takes with pawn instead she can block Qe4+ with the queen. Only works if the queen takes.

    Yeah, I think I'll give this one a try. I got a ChessDojo yearly subscription but it didn't agree with me: I need more freedom to work on whatever I want. The Chess Gym seems to give more freedom: there are few things you have to do every day/week and then you are on your own to explore whatever you want in your chess study.

    Thanks for sharing your game. I am an older USCF 1500 player trying to get back to OTB chess using the Pirc and KID, so it will be fun to watch your progress. I would have been confused by your opponent's move order as well. Gawain Jones suggests 6. ...c5 on page 271 of his long King's Indian book. Alireza recently played 6. ...c5 in a Titled Tuesday game shown on Chess Tempo. It seems the general plan is ...a6 and ...b5. Good luck with your chess, I'll be watching.

      Many thanks for watching and your insightful comment. I may have to look into that Gawain Jones book too. Im using Robert Ramirez’ Counterblow course on chessable and clicking through KID games in chessbase. I have a new video coming soon with a much different gameplay. I would love to see some of your games. Consider joining my discord - small chess community for improvers.

      Thank you for your suggestion. It is typically suggested that the player on the bottoms is usually the one to move. Not always but most times. This is fairly typical in many books and material online. Hope that helps.

      @@highgroundchess I found it much easier to keep the initiative with the center game gambit, but it was not sound enough when opponents can prepare against you. I’m not really enjoying the Evans that much for now but will stick with it until I get it.

    • @highgroundchess
      @highgroundchess 5 місяців тому

      Great to hear. I think any opening is viable if you know it well. At the class level most games are decided in the middle game so it matters little what opening you play. So I always say play what you enjoy the most.

  • @isayoldchap1
    @isayoldchap1 5 місяців тому

    e4 best by test! Good game and explanation of your thought process. One thing that comes to mind here is that the onus is on black to try to contest the center and attempt to handle your lead in development. So in terms of planning I would be thinking mostly in terms of trying to limit my opponents options vs. actively trying to do something immediately. I would defintely keep my pawns on d4 and e4 as long as possible since they are just so dominant. I might even try the Evans myself. It looks great especially for blitz and speed chess games. I think both Kasparov and Short have played it in the past amongst others.

    • @highgroundchess
      @highgroundchess 5 місяців тому

      I have to agree. The move in the position at least in LichessDB was e5. Not sure if it’s best but it seemed to have worked. Kid played well. I think I’ll be changing from 1.e4 to 1.Nf3 mainly for flexibility and go for a more hyper modern approach. delay e4 as to have less to prepare against.

    • @isayoldchap1
      @isayoldchap1 5 місяців тому

      @@highgroundchess you are right - the young player did well. There's a certain amount of pressure playing against unrated players because you have no idea what to expect. A lot of kids are hyper aggressive though, favoring forcing moves, and often meeting an attack with a counter attack of their own, etc. They play quickly so even though tactically sharp, they sometimes aren't patient enough to think everything through fully. I have sometimes been able to beat kids by baiting them into making a move that looks promising but doesn't quite work. They definitely keep you on your toes though. Hearing your account of over the board games makes we want to get back to the club.

    • @highgroundchess
      @highgroundchess 5 місяців тому

      @isayoldchap1 you should get back into it. Thanks for your comments. Yeah he is a promising player. Rated 800 or so but he will be a force if he sticks with it. I am sure I will face him again. I look forward to it.
