The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is a charitable 501c3 organization caring for nearly 5,000 animals each year to help them find second chances in a new home, or to help reunite them with their grateful owners. For more than 65 years, we’ve worked tirelessly to care for the sick, treat the injured, comfort the unwanted and protect the abused. Whether helping people in need keep their pets through surrender prevention programs, offering low-cost veterinary services and clinics, as well as outreach and education events throughout the county, our work goes far beyond the walls of the shelter.
Cancer Couldn't Dull His Sparkle
Cancer couldn't dull his sparkle.
Like the other stories we have shared today, Hank "the pittopotamus" was first found as a stray in the city of Reading. But his story truly began when his fur mom, Stephanie, brought him home on Christmas Eve after weeks of walking him religiously at the shelter.
Incredibly, once Hank found his new home, he didn't leave his past behind him. Being as gentle and friendly as they come, Hank quickly became an ARL ambassador in his local community, attending events with his fur mom and helping people learn about the shelter. During the deep trenches of the pandemic, Hank attended socially-distanced events to shine his light where it was needed the most, including a senior home and a local youth services group.
Yet looking at him, you would never know that Hank was fighting his own battles after being diagnosed with the word no pet owner ever wants to here: cancer. While bravely battling cancer for three years, he remained perseverant and hopeful every day, choosing to use the time he had left to brighten the lives of everyone he met. Since crossing the rainbow bridge in 2021, his legacy still continues to inspire people in his community and has woven friendships that are bound to last a lifetime.
Animals like Hank remind us that when there is hope, there is a way. Today, as you read this, there are over 180 animals being cared for by ARL that are holding on to that same hope, and today only, you can help brighten the lives of these animals with a DOUBLED donation thanks to a generous donor matching all gifts up to $20,000.
Our shelter pets are dreaming of leaving with families just like Stephanie's, and your donation can be the beacon of hope that helps them get through each day while under our compassionate care.
Don't miss this EXCLUSIVE opportunity to be a part of our new mural for donations of $100 or more!
You can display your pet’s name on our incoming mural located in our lobby’s meet and greet room as a permanent testament to your support of ARL’s continued legacy.
Our mural artwork by David Reimer is expected to be ready for the public to enjoy this fall.

Biggie Smalls has it all these days - A luxurious couch for day naps, a fenced-in yard to unleash his zoomies, and best of all, a family who loves him. But life wasn't always this way. In fact, he was first discovered tied to his finder's porch with no sign of an owner in sight. We may never know his full story, but we will always know how grateful he was to come to the ARL for his new chance o...

Buddy was brought to ARL as a matted stray while Charlie was seeking a new furry companion following the back-to-back losses of his wife and pet. Both experiencing major and unexpected life changes, they had no idea just how much they needed each ...

The year was 1980-something, Monday Night TV featured ALF and MacGyver, The Bangles, “Walk Like an Egyptian” was the biggest song of the year and dating apps like Tinder were still decades away from creation, but love was still in the air - in the form of video dating. While matchmaking technology has modernized in the years since our adoptable dogs asked us to throw it back this Valentine’s Da...

I want to work with Bears is that possible
I just bought a bottle….but it has no hole on the top. How do I make one?
I only have 16 face piercings and my dyed green hair has roots coming in but have 25 tattoos, can I still be a stereotypical vet tech?
anyone with an idea of a cat shelter for a single cat with some sort of escape strategy in case if a mink or fox or some other predator wants to eat it?
I just fostered three 1 week old kittens and needed a visual how to. This was very helpful. Thank you
I'm a freshmen and I'm currently taking classes for Vet Tech. I'm honestly scared so if anyone has any tips I'd be happy to take them-
Following!
Thanks. Best version-and, cat not laying [almost] directly on styrofoam. Most commercial products are rated as cr🍏ppy quality. Trying this soon😊
Great thanks!
I want to a vat
beautiful profession, definitely deserve better pay and support!
از این برند شیشه شیر از کجا تهیه کنم ؟؟
Do you know any good quick treatement for maggots in cat
vfun1988.blogspot.com/2024/06/cat-treat-soup-which-type-is-best.html
Thank you , you made that look so easy !
I really want to be a tech vet..I hate my current job... but I'm making more now than I would a tech. I would like to do physical therapy but I can't decide it.. :(
Never give up!!
Exact same boat, I want to be a Vet tech or Vet. I hate my current job and I’m trying to get into grad school to be a physical therapist. Can’t decide if I want to keep pursuing physical therapy or switch to vet tech. I don’t care much about the money, I don’t mind a modest lifestyle as long as I’m happy at the end of the day and fulfilled in what I’m doing
A requisite (that means necessary part of it) is that you need to wear pajama bottoms as pants, have purple hair, facial piercings, wear your stethoscope around your neck in your Tinder profile as if to suggest you’re a nurse, and be either really underweight or overweight.
Mine is 2 1/2 day old this definitely helped
IMPERSONATOR! I HAVE A FRIEND NAMED ZANE 😂 I also named one of my cartoon characters Zane
Zane🎉🎉❤❤
can't see the description of the full equipment list
I am struggling to feed 3 kittens after their mommy disappeared... they are only a bit over 3 weeks old and they don't really know what to do with the bottle, they usually start munching on it and they barely manage to drink anything... after 2 hours of trying to feed them, they only managed to swallow about 3-4ml each which is 4 times less than the amount they need to get in one feeding... I really don't know what to do in this situation 😭 I can't be feeding them the whole day, I have school and can't really take proper care of them.... any tricks that could make them eat more efficiently?
Same here. Does it change later?
@@salitaghambashidze496 Hello!! From what I've noticed, you should try to keep the bottle in their mouth for as long as possible and they'll eventually figure out what to do, but it may take a while. Please just make sure not to force feed them by squishing the bottle for the milk to get out because it may end up in their lungs and it's gonna cause other issues. I guess patience is key. Unfortunately, in my situation, out of the 3 kittens, only one managed to survive.😭
@@AryaLuxvery helpful. Thank you
How long do you have them with the bottle continuously at one time? I try to go for a minute, but I don't know if they need to come up for air before that, or if I should wait even longer.
😢
I want to be a veterinary technician ❤
Thank you very much❤ your video was very useful to me
Very nice clinic
I was planning on studying for vet assistant because since i was little i’ve always loved helping animals and had always watched videos on them, now i really wanted to study to be a vet assistant but saw the Salarys and it’s below what i am currently making which is 18.55$ an hr. So I decided to search up for vet tech and realized for everything they so they get payed 23$ an hr here in las Vegas. Sadly they pays are too low😔For the yr of study. It was something i really wanted to do. But anyways just wanted to say thankyou so much for helping these little guys❤️
Me too 😢
❤
Aww 🐶 are you doing this again?
Another very cheap option is to make a shelter out of shrink wrap surrounding an improvised cage and wood pallet floor....
how many years of collage do you need to be a vet tech?
depends on where you go. I'm doing a 15 month program, but programs vary.
I think It also depends on which Country you live in.... In Canada its a 2 year (plus practicums) program
2-4 years. It's associate or bachelor's degree
It depends, I'm doing a 2 uear associates degree which is enough for my state and the states boarding me
Great information. Tyvm❤
Great vid, have several shelters I made. Large black Sterlite, cut two large round holes on EACH side! Cats must have an exit route, they do not like to be trapped. Be sure to file your holes with sandpaper so they do not get cut. Next, large styrofoam beer cooler, slice the two long sides, place snugly on insides of your Sterlite. This ensures far better insulation. Put a blanket on the bottom. This way you will know if they have had an accident and it needs to be changed out. Then Use STRAW, not hay. It traps air and insulates well. Also, straw has no nutritional value so other predators will not come around it like they will for some tasty hay. Straw is cheaper to boot. A large bale is usually around $10 and some change at a farm store. Stuff and press down straw as much as you can until it meets your entrance/exit holes. Lastly, get stickers from Staples and slap them on the side of the Sterlite. Mine says, “CAT SHELTER, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE”! Voila! Thank you for reading and for looking out for the kitties!😻
These are really expensive feral cat shelters in my country
ADOPT FUCKING METRIC!!!
Keep hole's small so predators can't eat your cats
animal farming community protection project society
The entrance hole is way too big, especially if there are predators around. Raccoons, coyotes for example.
Thanks ❤
Straw is not at big box stores 😞 we've had a guest the last 3 nights and it's going to winter storm tonight, but I get one trip to Lowe's because I don't drive/ have to take the bus. Any secondary ideas?!
Try a pet store.
where will i find straw though ;{ are there alternatives?
You could also fill the top also, heat rises
I live in Florida and I don't understand how water isn't going to blow into the hole
Tip .. heat a coffee can up and that will burn a perfect hole . Thanks for the video and @jmo2104 thanks for the back door tip too!
A better idea is to buy a used cooler for $5 or $10. It's already insulated.
Awhhh how did a Cavalier end up the shelter!???
Makes more sense than any I've seen.
Great video. Love the flowerpot entrance tunnel. Whatever works I always say. Thank you for caring for homeless cats.
