    My method is better. Never tangles and you can always unravel the length you need. For example: if you only need 15’ of cord, you don’t have to unravel the entire cord, and the roll is by the outlet plug. I bought a roll of string and pulled the end piece from inside the roll, so I used that concept to roll and unroll the cord. All you need is a perfect size bungee cord to keep the entire cord in its shape.

    • @AntCBCV
      @AntCBCV 3 години тому

      @@TimeToBeKind with the over under method you can pull out as much as you need and leave the rest rolled up by the outlet. Then when you’re done you just roll up what you used. Probably not as fool proof as your solution but it works.

    Considering how many people have died doing this, it's great to see you taking safety so seriously. Is there any way to place one electrode in a fixed position on the wood before you turn it on? That way, as long as you are using an isolation transformer, your heart isn't between the two ends of the circuit.

    • @AntCBCV

    Hey man, hobbies are great, and if you do it with extreme care it's gonna be fine, just always be extra careful, and I hope to see your succeed! For more technical stuff, the low frequency AC is actually more dangerous than high frequency AC, or rectified DC, because your muscles respond to low frequency currents by contracting, which is what causes traumatic damage, locking your body up, stopping your heart, etc. I almost want to propose using inverter based microwave oven power supplies with its rectifier removed (although this would cause some problems as the secondary circuit contributes to the soft switing topology those switching power supply uses), as at these frequencies, you likely won't even be "shocked" when you touch the HV, and would just receive localized light thermal burns at the contacting areas. As bad as touching an extra spicy soldering iron basically. At high frequencys (>100kHz) your body won't even notice the current being there, especially if you have full contact with the electrodes to prevent arcing burns. Your body will be unharmed and just pass the current like a resistor, unless you're dissipating too much heat in which case you get thermal damage.

    • @AntCBCV
      @AntCBCV Місяць тому

      @alexwang007 thanks for the info and the encouragement! I know many fractal wood burning hobbyists prefer using neon sign transformers because they are safer. I chose to use the more dangerous microwave transformers so I could get more familiar with them as I intend to use them for other projects in the future like lasers, tesla coils, and masers. Plus microwaves are very cheap or free and come with many other useful components.

  • @RANDOMUS250

    If you want it to work, you need two of the exact same transformers. Also, there is a big mistake if you plug in only one transformer. It causes induction in the second transformer's high voltage coil because the transformer that is plugged in is connected to the second transformer and produces 240 volts in the primary coil of the second transformer. This voltage is applied to the second transformer's cord plug pins. If you touch it when you pick it up to plug it in, you will get a bad shock.

    • @AntCBCV
      @AntCBCV 2 місяці тому

      @@RANDOMUS250 yep that is correct. The transformers need to be the same for this to work. My supply voltage is 110 so the transformer that was not plugged in took the high voltage and transformed it back down to 110 which is what I measured on the prongs of the plug. There were voltage losses too because of the inefficiency of the set up.

    • @danielteberian
      @danielteberian 2 місяці тому

      @@scaledsilver A neon sign transformer has a much lower amperage output, meaning you have less of a chance of killing yourself. High voltage and high amperage will almost certainly kill you. As for why you shouldn't hold both ends, it has to do with the way a circuit works. A circuit requires a pathway for the electricity to travel in a circle. It leaves one end, travels along the pathway, and returns to the opposite end. If you hold both ends of the circuit, you become the thing that the electricity travels through, and that high voltage will travel through your chest and kill you. Your brain uses electrical signals to control everything inside your body, but those signals can be overpowered by an outside electrical signal. Your heart could stop, it could start beating out of sync, and you could get internal burns.
