I was a big fan of Hawaii Five-0 when I was a kid. Probably one of the reasons I live in Hawaii today. This episode was one of the main ones that stuck with me. Funny though I used to think, wow, there must be a lot of crime in Hawaii. 😄

Classic episode powerful

Barbara Baxley's chilling dialouge in "One Big Happy Family"- .."they wasn't kin. they was all strangers. it don't count with strangers', as "McGarrett" (Jack Lord) asks, "what about the alleged $40,000 from your victims?' as she utters, "never stole a cent. they was dead . what'd they want with money, when they is dead-it ain't stealin' when they was dead first". you couldn't make up this kind of macabre stuff in a million years, but the original "HAWAII FIVE-O" was ahead of the game, and these episodes pulled no punches!

As a kid my family every week would watch Hawaii 5.0. My mother loved Jack Lord and his black Mercury. She said during one episode if I became well off she hoped I would drive a Mercury. I only made it to a Ford Crown Vic pursuit but I still became well off. I retired from law enforcement after 27 years of service, served my country, been married for 34 years and raised 5 kids. I now have grand kids. Yep I'm well off. Miss you mom and dad, love you !!!

I was 8 years when this episode was aired. It was aired on October 3, 1968. I always wonder where was I when this episode was shown on TV.

Huge favourite back then we first watched it.... and still is....that makes in our eighties....who ever did this has done a brilliant and has put it for now ...brilliant....

Jack Lord insisted that nothing but Ford and Mercury vehicles be used by the major players in the series. So not just McGarrett, but all his other men drove Ford/Mercuries too.

While most of the best episodes were in the forth and fifth seasons I really enjoy the youthful 60’s vibe of the first season or two compared to the 70’s polyester feel of the 70’s .

I was going up an elevator in El Paso one time when I was a kid As I opened the elevator to get in, a man steps out of the elevator with metal hook arms. It took me a minute to realize who that was...it was the one and only JJ Armes aka "Hookman"...😮😮😯 I wish I could've taken a pic or at least talked with him. But that was way before phone cameras existed...🙄

Kam Fong. Classy, real deal tough guy and gentleman. This is a powerful scene.

McGarretts office is timelessly iconic. I like seeing Wo Fat and the Vachons seated like hoodlums in there.

I lived on Oahu when "Hawaii Five-0" was filmed! My Dad was an Officer and Pilot in The USAF and we lived on Hickam AFB which sits across the bay from Pearl Harbor. Me and my siblings got to meet Jack Lord at a Luau down on Ft. Derussy Beach next to Waikiki Beach! He was so nice to me and my siblings and genuinely chatted with us for 20 or so minutes till he had to go meet other people! My older sister was absolutely smitten with "Steve-O" and me and my brothers teased her unmercifully for weeks! 😂 As an older Adult Kid I also enjoyed watching "Magnum PI" mainly to see parts of The Island but I ended up digging that show too! Great episode, love how Mc Garrett plays "chess' with the thief, before his "checkmate!" The two episode with Hume Croyn were excellent! He was in the movie "Cocoon" in the mid 1980's, as well.

Having just watched this two parter again. It's a great episode. And the chemistry between Linville and Lord was amazing. Both great actors.
