    Is it worth ? To do fm bcz i have heard people prefer IM AND hws job after residency why cant fm people do fellowship like im if its like same residency

    • @ZeelShahMD
      @ZeelShahMD Місяць тому

      Hey! I definitely think it’s worth it. It’s been extremely fulfilling and there’s SO MUCH you can do with family medicine. You definitely CAN do fellowship after residency if you wish. The fellowship options are different from internal medicine and include fields like emergency medicine, geriatrics, palliative, sports medicine, etc. family medicine covers everything ranging from pediatrics to OB/gyn to adults to geriatrics whereas internal medicine focuses only on adults and geriatric medicine.

      @@ZeelShahMD then why it's less preferred and underpaid if it covers so much

    • @ZeelShahMD
      @ZeelShahMD Місяць тому

      It depends on who you speak to. Family medicine is definitely preferred by those that are interested in the broad spectrum. Also salaries really vary so I can’t say that we’re necessarily underpaid. At the end of the day, do whatever makes you happy and whatever you are passionate about!

      @@ZeelShahMD reason i am asking i want to apply in both im and fm and so confused everyone speaks so much different being img i dont understand training is same then why so much difference

    • @ZeelShahMD
      @ZeelShahMD Місяць тому

      The training is not the same. There is quite a bit difference in the training actually. Internal medicine does NOT provide training in pediatrics or obstetrics. Internal medicine is ONLY focused on adult care whereas family medicine covers pediatrics/obstetrics/adults. It's quite a big difference actually. If you do NOT wish to have training in pediatrics and obstetrics, then internal medicine is perhaps a better fit.

    can we do fellowship in dermatology after completing the family medicnie residency?

    • @ZeelShahMD
      @ZeelShahMD 6 місяців тому

      Great question! dermatology is its own specialty so you would have to do a residency in dermatology. It’s not a fellowship that you can do after family medicine. However, family medicine does see a lot of dermatology concerns so you can do CME and train to address common concerns within your outpatient clinic.

    Not trying to be ugly, but the amazing thing is to consider how much LIGHTER those hours are than they were when I did it a million years ago. Of course the pay has increased as well, but so has inflation, The bottom line is that residents make basically enough to live on with no frills, etc. And the interest on those debts accrues during residency for most people. THe salaries skyrocket when you finish residency or fellowship, but for some of us, that is as much as 15 years of post high school education and training at no or minimal salary.

    • @ZeelShahMD
      @ZeelShahMD 6 місяців тому

      Great question but quite frankly every single residency program is stressful. While specialty does play a factor in determining the degree of stress, there are a lot more factors that are important to consider. Most importantly, anything is stressful if you do not enjoy what you do and/or do not have the support of the leadership. It's important to pick what you enjoy and find a program that is a good fit for you as an individual.
