    I love the videos! I’ve made up my mind on turning my Sami into an overland rig what all is done to Nick’s? And how does it fair on the highways with your trailer?

    • @overtime4x497

      Much appreciated! Some of the older videos show some of the build. He got most of his parts from Low Range Offroad and Trail Tough. The mods include: rear ARB air locker, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, front lock right locker, front trussing, transfer case regearing to 4.16, 5k lb. winch, Sidekick 1.6L engine with trail tough mounts, electric fan, Harley Davidson carburetor with sidewinder adapter kit, heated subaru outback leather seats, LED headlights, custom sheet metal dashboard with 100% new wiring led to a residential junction box from Home Depot, mirror mounts to the roll cage so the doors can be removed without losing access to the mirrors. Performance has been hit or miss, but the fun hasn't. As you can see at the start of our last video, the Costa Rica one, there was a catastrophic engine failure, and roughly every 4k miles, there's a significant failure (engine, wheel bearing, intermediate shaft u joint). When the distributor is tuned properly, it puts out enough power to tow the 1k lb trailer, if you're willing to occasionally drive at 35-45 mph on a steep highway pass. Not for the faint of heart! Bring plenty of tools and know that you'll spend 2-3x the time maintaining the vehicle as you will using it.

Thank you I just did a complete .020 overhaul on a 1.6 8v motor and dropped it in mine im running a 3k carb for now but plan on installing the EFI from the tracker I got the motor out of so I’m hoping for 70mph without a trailer lol I also have stock gears on 31s and SPUA YJs so y’all are for sure motivating me to finish my Sami out instead of buying another vehicle for overlanding I enjoy a challenge hopefully I’ll see you on the trails someday

      Manual or auto hubs? Pack with a lot of grease and tighten the spindle nut with a little Conrad strength as we say. Could be bad races or keyway not installed correctly. Make sure the bearings are seated correctly. When you rotate the rotor to seat the bearing there should be some resistance/pre-load.

      It's not a bad idea if the weight strains the vehicle. Because at full build these will be at 1000 lbs, I decided against trailer brakes for the sake of simplicity and keeping the weight down.

Nick's is a civilian version of the Bantam t3, so it's "stock" to keep it as-is. It performs just fine, but maybe down the road it'll be an upgrade he'll do.

    Trailers look great, good work. I have had a m762 trailer( m416 with no box) m 100( like the bantam tc-3 with no tailgate) . I wanted a tailgate in the m 100 but didn’t want to cut it due to the historical value, traded it to a friend with a M38 Jeep of the same vintage, and got a CND M101 1/4 ton trailer. I am cutting the M101 for my tailgate. The reason the axles and hubs and bearings are the way they are on the bantams, the Willy’s MBT, and the M100 is because the hubs, bearings, and seals interchange with the front hubs on the Willy’s MB, ford GPW, m38, And the M38A1 jeeps for selective interchange should a hub get distorted on the Jeep in combat, and for likeness of parts in the supply system. I towed the M100 all over the panamints mountains and have stayed at the cabin you went to at the top of pleasant canyon many times. That is the world beater mine. When I lived in the high desert, my friends and I would make on an average of 10 trips a year out there. Beautiful area and the trails change every time it rains. Look forward to seeing your videos on how you outfit the trailers for off road camping.

    Converting a over landing trailer into an over landing trailer. LOL Aren’t you just restoring old army trailers? They are perfect for even a modern Jeep. I’m thinking of picking up one of these and doing about the same thing. I was thinking of some sort of bedliner coating for the interior and picking up the old Jeep part paint for the exterior. New axles is not a bad idea. Thanks for sharing.

    And another great video from you guys think you got the best mix of music and commentary was going to ask if you aired down the trailer tyres but I won't now you said in an earlier video that your trailers are from the late 40s they have a 3 leaf spring pack and no shocks my M416 is a 70s version and has a 5 leaf spring pack with shocks and run 265 75 16 Cooper stt pro with 25 psi on Landcruiser rims on a axle with the same track width as my truck which I tow behind my 100 series LC Amazon on the road I hardly notice it and offroad its not there think if you can get the 5 leaf spring pack and shock mounts it would be a better for you and and a lot less damaging for what you carry in the trailer tub you got another subscription cheers steve UK

    Is camping on the beach allowed? Dispersed or campsite camping? What is the exact name of the beach and dunes? Maybe if you have coordinates, that’ll help me map out a trip from southern cali. Also, what are those orange flags for and are they required and where’d you get them if they are?

    • @overtime4x497
      @overtime4x497 2 роки тому

      Not allowed. We found out the hard way one time. The camping is dispersed, but within 100 or so feet of designated spots. The orange flags are required and provide better visibility to you and others as you dip between dunes, and over the tops of them. Many of the local hardware stores sell them. The area is called Hauser Beach, and this is where we enter: 43.4892933, -124.2263231 Have fun and keep us posted!

    I have 2 Bantam T3-C (trailers, circa 1946-47) One's in bad shape but the other is going to be the overland rig. You've re-inspired me. Been on the back burner as an overland project but am looking to get back to the build this spring. I have to know where you got that new axle. Size? Model number? The axle swap is needed for me to get my Jeep YJ's 5X4.5 wheel pattern so that I can carry one spare as you also indicated. Nicely done gents. Keep us posted on this fine journey!

      Conrad ordered a Dexter axle and picked it up from a dealer in Longview, WA. It's a 3500 lb or D35 axle. There are many different hub options if you check the Dexter catalog for your bolt pattern you need. Axle was ordered to 57" length, which is the shortest length they offered, but it is wider than the original axle which is around 49". Fenders were extended 3" on each side to cover the tread of the tires. It may be possible to cut and weld the axle to any length but the axle is bowed so it might be a little tricky. I was able to get hubs with 6x5.5 and drums for eventual electric brakes. In an upcoming video we might show a modification to the e-brake assembly if it ends up being successful. Good luck with your project and keep us posted. Thanks for watching.
