Ringing in 2025 with style and 4K!
As is our tradition, the merry band of @St_Matts_Bells rang out 2024, watched the SkyTower fireworks from the church roof, and then rang in 2025.

Tram Enthusiast's Dream: COTMA 2023 visit to MOTAT
My parents can remember when the tunnels were built and being 'operationally ready.'
Ja 1271 is from Steam Inc
Why was the Oberursel so loud ? sounded like the flywheel was touching some of the panel steel ?
No idea sorry. The crew operating it treated it as normal, so perhaps it always sounds that loud?
не воткнуть лайк это просто преступление
6:58 I remember when this steam engine was still in use in the early 1970's when I was in intermediate school. The steam exhaust exited through the wall of the building onto the railway tracks at Morningside. They were driving an electrical generator with it. The boiler was fueled with scrap wood and sawdust
That is outstanding, I didn't realise how long the track available was. Great ride.
It's approx 1.7 km, but due to the stops, corners, track changes etc, the round trip takes approx 20 minutes. It's a great ride for everyone, and being a free attraction, is very popular.
What a great video. And what a great choice of music to accompany the clips. Very professional
Glad you enjoyed it! I had hoped to be able to kind of carry you through the decades with the music, but I wasn't able to get it, so I did the best with what I had :)
The 893 motorman seems to have given you a nice smooth ride.
He did absolutely superbly, which is to be expected from such a gentlemanly, kind, and professional driver!
Hope the "dj" isn't there anymore. Playing bad music while a girl just stands there. Paying for 2 people to play a cd, a bad cd. Waste of money and not entertaining
No idea sorry!

why r there 2 gauges?
Because the trams are different widths! Melbourne, Sydney, Whanganui, Auckland are all on the wider gauge, and Wellington is on the narrow gauge
Excellent compilation, thanks for posting.
Glad you liked it!
I'm going to be in Auckland in March, and I'm really looking forward to visiting MOTAT. Love the videos.
Awesome! Thank you! If you can coincide with a Live Day, you'll have the greatest time possible
This museum is far better than our own here in australia.
The team try very hard and have quite high standards!
I had to look it up via Google, but the track gauges are 4' and 4'8.5".
Thanks Stephen. Not sure that that was in doubt as the information is also available on Wikipedia and the MOTAT website
Being a 6th generation Perth boy born in 1984, I remember them very well. Rode them many times.
Condolences for your loss Scott. Glad you could do this to honour your Fathers life. I’ve practiced this in Hamilton and it’s not easy. Dan Watson. Hamilton.
So sorry to hear about your loss - ringing a mourning bell is a beautiful way to mark the solemnity. Sending you light and love.
Bless, that connection in a tactile way, must be hard on so many levels. Brave, and real. Sending big hug.
That was a beautiful commemoration of your father's life Scott. Hugs and sympathy to you and yours.
Street kids used to live in them there's more around NZ Welly devonprt etc
The last dates we read were 1984 we were there like 94
I been inside the tunnels under the high court with my mate Phil we were riding out bikes and s tree had come from storm and I could see a way in as I knew of them so in we went we got to the tunnel up to government house and turned back we were on top of the unfired bricks and it was scary as torches but nobody knew we were in there so we went back it's twin tunnels had train tracks
Damm, i thought it was albert park in Melbourne. Bloody cousin's ripped me off😂😂😂
No.they are thousands of years old like Auckland war memorial museum. The entire narrative is occult BS.
Not sure what narrative you're referring to or what "they" are!
If I remember correctly, the last station on the Southern Line used to be Pukekohe Railway Station
Yes: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Auckland_railway_stations. Even at the historic peak of rail traffic, the southern line didn't extend south of Pukekohe. Perhaps one day when we have regular inter-city trains, we'll have stops south of Pukekohe on those, resurrecting some long closed stations on NIMT!
The Westminster chimes in the distance are from the clock tower in Cook’s Gardens
Birkenhead army base is a no go area also.
Learn something new everyday.
My dad and his cousins worked in the "factory" that made the bricks. They were slightly smaller than a hollow-stone block, and loaded into the tunnel off the back of trucks. And, according to him, there are a LOT of places that were left unfilled, because the Ministry of Works had a deadline and fell behind, so they cheated.
Another place to look is in Whangarei... End of Banff Street is a cave... possibly man made... I found it when i was a kid.....
Do you have any further info on this, is it in the reserve?
Been into these tunnels back in the 90s back then there was a small hole in the wall at the Constitution hill entrance. The blast suppression area was intact then and not filled up with clay bricks, it was full of rusty metal, perhaps old bunk beds or seating. The unfired bricks that had been used to fill the tunnel formed a muddy slippery mess that we had to belly crawl over. There were large chunks of original roof that had collapsed and it was pretty hard going. We made it a good way along that tunnel, before the consensus was that it was too dodgy to continue as the crawl space became narrower due to collapse. I regret not finishing the adventure but didn't wish to do it on my own.
I went in the same entrance in the early 2000s. It was a muddy crawl. I doubt we made it further than you.
@@theloungeking I didn't realize it stayed open for so long. Ever met anyone who made it through?
In about 2008/2009 I met a speleologist working as a geology technician at Auckland Uni who had been the furtherest and helped test the safety of things
@@spil030 I think I know who you're talking about, I won't name names. Having done geology at Auckland university and being a member of the Auckland speleological society and having crawled through my fair share of limestone caves.
@@lambert2969 why do kiwis all feel this intense desire to list their qualitifactions professional or otherwise? as a specialist in online social media platforms sharing video from american cdn's and with primarily red logos featuring the classic triangular 'play' symbol, I find it strange
At a time when the Albert tunnels could have been used to create a transport hub connecting the existing Auckland Railway station to the CBD they were given to control of a private developer to become some sort of theme park. Meantime an underwater site was chosen downtown and a huge whole was dug. That resulted in a massive power blackout the cause of which quickly disappeared from the news as politicians and bureaucrats covered their arses. Now the "old" railway station has been repurposed as a slum. And some people made a boat load of money. Ahhh! History.
The first was 5 bells
So why did they destroy it all?
Sounds like because it was already starting to collapse just a few years later
Cost? It sounds like it wasn't likely to stay long and the maintenance wouldn't been a cost they couldn't afford perhaps
I want to go to your place and see these trams.
MOTAT is open every day except Christmas Day! motat.nz/
We still have not used this service. So far, we have tried to use it 3 times. First time no return trip at the right time. Second try, trip cancelled due to works. This weekend was a bank holiday, ten of us planed a trip together, guess what, busy holiday time, no service. Just like UK trains. Ohh well, got to go in 2 cars now.
Very useful tips for my upcoming Northern Explorer trip 👍👍👍

Great video. Like me
Nice video. Like me🤩😁😄!
IAM glad someone has bought the station building, it's of a similar design to the old Tuakau and Tekawhata stion
This would’ve been so good during the last school holidays! We had to take turns holding our lazy 3 year old around the long way 😩
I was an "inmate" of the Children's Home top of Owen Street, Newtown, Wellington as a child and one of these trams was given to the home. Loved playing in it.
What a great treasure we have to enjoy at MOTAT ,pity they didnt leave the whole network across Auckland in place ,my grand kids are coming up in july and they are very much looking forward to going onm the MOTAT trams ,i live just down the road and enjoy seeing them every day in action My Dad used to tell me about riding the old tram network back in the day to get around central Auckland on a tram
Come back to Perth!
Hi.my.is.oliver.😊
All of these tunnels - the ones in North Head and these ones - should be repaired and opened up to the public! They would make great tourist attractions and they're part of our history.
Did you miss the part where they put 8.8 million UNFIRED clay bricks in there?. That is 18 million kgs of clay that would need to be removed. Clay which will certainly have become crumbly if not completely wet. Do you understand what moving that would entail?.
