Liane Moriarty - Full Episode
What would you do if you knew the day, hour, minute and method of your death?
Even if it is fifty years, three months, seven days, six hours and 32 seconds from now, peacefully in your sleep?
How would it change the way you spent today? Tomorrow?
Because that time, that moment - exists for all of us.
We often avoid thinking about it, because it’s uncomfortable to think about.
It’s so uncomfortable to think about we’ve invented entire religions to solve the problem of those feelings, religions which promise that it won’t be the end - that there’s another place, or you get another go, or there was even one which promised you’d get a ride on a spaceship hiding behind the Hale-Bopp comet. (Oh hang on, that was a cult. Well you know the old saying: cults + time = religion.)
I think about what it would mean for my life if I knew the exact day, hour, minute and method of my death.
One of Australia’s most successful authors ever, Liane Moriarty has been contemplating this too. It’s the premise of her latest novel - “Here One Moment”.
Liane is one of the most successful Authors in the world, thanks to her brilliant books Big Little Lies, Truly Madly Guilty, Nine Perfect Strangers and so many more.
However she didn’t get there in a straight line.
It’s not always as simple as “knowing what you want to be” and “finding your passion”, Liane’s journey is inspiring, relatable and makes it seem like anyone could indeed go for it.
And why not? I mean, we’re all going to die - do we want to die wondering?

Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey - Father's Day Special

What would you do if you had nothing to prove? If you were free to make any project you liked, in whatever shape you liked, to reflect your experience in that moment? Better yet - what would you do if you got to do all of this with a close mate you’ve known for over 20 years? That pretty much describes the new music from Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey. AKA Fanning Dempsey National Park. They’...

Phil Jameson, and I go way back. I even played a gig supporting Grinspoon well before I worked in TV. (My band broke up, they became one of Australia’s greatest rock bands.) If you’ve never thought about what it takes to put a band on the road, or how to keep a band together for as long as they’ve been together - this conversation will shed a lot of light on the realities of life as a member of...

It's interesting what he's saying about the casette tapes in the car because it used to be that you knew the recording of the song itself inside and out. Sometimes there would be a wonky note or an inconsistent melody or something and you remembered and anticipated the flawed bits. Now you have so much more exposure to live performances of the song but the recorded version used to be "THE" song.

Silverchair were lightning in a bottle. And to start from such a young age, it’s not a surprise that members drift apart. It’s like a divorce because people do change and grow apart. It would just be nice if they were at least on friendly terms now.

One of my favorite bands for my generation. I didn't know Chris went through all these health problems. I knew about Ben and Daniel struggles. I'm 51 years old now and I still need to listen to some Silverchair songs...I came to the conclusion they would never play live or record another album together again. Just another era gone forever.

What you said about their lyrics is so true, fan of almost 30 years here & their music has always inspired me or just made my day better. I've met Zac 3 times, Taylor 2, unfortunately not Isaac yet and they are such humble, kind people. And when Taylor said "they were made cute so you don't kill them" i literally almost spit my drink out I cracked up so much! And congrats on your sobriety, ik how hard it is. I've been off Suboxone for a year after 12 years of being on it after being on several things that were gonna end up killing me. And yes us Hanson fans are very dedicated, i have a tattoo i hope to have them all sign. And speaking for myself the dedication partly comes from their dedication for SO many years to us. (Sorry for such a long comment, just so much to touch on)

I am 50 years of age and come from a relatively well known family within Australian music, and I have fucked my whole life and pushed everyone away! I have suffered from untreated ptsd and depression for as long as I can remember and still can't function within society, I have ruined everyone's life around me and my children don't like me either. I live alone and have become fully reclusive and recently became redundant from work and with everything else going on in my life, I have no way forward that I can see at this stage, and I feel as though my life is over at this point. All that keeps me going is that I can't do anything drastic to hurt my kids anymore than I have already. I can't afford doctors, or support so my life is painful every day physically and mentally! Please, if you're a young person and suffer from anything that affects your mental health, please get help before you become me. Thank you Nat, you are a legend!!

Thank you guys for this earthy, pull apart commentary on the most appalling shit we were forced to swallow as kids. Both Catholicism & Protestantism have SO MUCH to apologise for. In spectacular fashion, thanks to media, we were witness to George Pell named, shamed & sunk! May his associate cronies go the same way. As for the protestants particularly the Baptists, they need to step down from their own ivory towers, take off the suits, grow a heart, & stop the brain/mental quoting of bible passage & verse & "Get Real" Jesus left the church long ago. 👍👍👍👍👍

Love this honesty and as a female have never heard two men talk like this, it should be more encouraged. Men have been so used to the role of bringing home the bacon, we neglect the stress they go through that affects mental health.

Lol I am also passionate about photography. My first camera waa a point and shoot. Mom laughed and thankfully she held my first photos. They were at a zoo with low anger and allot of animal behinds. In the petting zoo goats behinds. Mom said nice photo but no faces. Happy animals wagging tails. I like tails because it shows the animals mood. Photography of a 3-4 year old.

I guess after feeding crocodiles everything in life is easier. Like crocodile capturing we all have to take on life's challenges by jumping the challenging ,secure the task , constantly evaluate the situations ,and then releasing and walk away ready for the next challenge. Thank you Irwins for being Inspiring.

I don’t think Daniel should be punished for branching out into other avenues and outgrown molds. Ben and Chris also went into a different direction doing the family life and running businesses. Daniel is a painter with music. he’s always been eccentric and Ben and Chris were more down to earth and chill. I believe Silverchair ended the party while they were still on top vs prolonging a band or artist like JLo having a midlife crisis or Madonna fully knowing they should retire gracefully or do something new with their fame. but silverchair created albums with richness and depth. they don’t make bands like this anymore at least in the US
