Since 1977, when I first started playing the trombone in Elementary school band, I've been fortunate enough to land in some pretty good ensembles. High school was a musical blast. In college I earned my degree in music, but not before playing with some world-class musicians. Post-music degree and into my professional life, I continue to perform, compose and arrange. This channel is a peek into my musical locker.

I played Bass Drum # 5 that year, my only year of college marching. I was only at USM that one year but what a time it was . . . thank you, Rod Harkins, thank you Andy, and many, many others. I am still performing percussion today!
NICE. I'm out there hugging a bass drum in this one.

Ron! I remember you, brother. We chatted briefly at the banquet, I think, that spring. Damn. 30 years, amigo!
Wonderful. I marched bass drum to this. I remember it vividly.
Wow. This is fantastic. I marched bass drum that year, my only year ever marching in college. I just came across this. Any other Golden Eagles out there?? 1989 was a great year - I learned a lot at Southern, and was really challenged, musically.
Don,t forget chords 00:32-00:42 strong emotion,chords for always,eternity
It would be nice if you would set one of your videos to "Not Made For Kids". As no one can comment their love for the USA or the appreciation for the rendition of The National Anthem. ua-cam.com/video/7c5eG3Rfqvc/v-deo.html
What great memories from a day when bands blew the stadium walls down! Thanks Ron!
Does anyone have any photos of the 1975 or 1976 bands...Dallas and Honolulu? I know video would be rare but would love to see some photos...
I WAS THERE IN 1988. TRUMPET
Thank you so much for posting this, Ron. I have no idea what happened to the LPs we bought from my years there :(
This is awesome! Btw u just look like Sarek Spock's father :o
You lost me at 0:05 "Shave Descending Portion of Eyebrows"
WOAH!! That looks GREAT!!!
I absolutely LOVE this. Thanks, Ron, for giving this back to us!
Came here expected how to style eyebrows. Got a make-up tutorial. Huh. Also that's not a Vulcan - that's a Romulan. Vulcans do not have a V-shaped forehead.
I can see how you might be confused if you have not done a lot of cosplay or make-up before. Once you understand the logic behind the technique, it may make more sense to you. The V-shaping is for the purpose of contouring. Make-up artists contour every client's face (character make-up, monster make-up or regular, everyday men or women's make-up). If I did not contour, I would look like a fat, round-faced human with out-of-character angled eyebrows. The contouring technique I use for my Vulcan make-up yields a face that is alien, other-worldly - as opposed to a sad man who just painted on raised eyebrows. If you really want to do a Vulcan character, it takes some commitment: partially shaving or plucking your own eyebrows, applying extensions and make-up to transform the face. If you look at the final product, not the process 1/2 way through, I look Vulcan - not Romulan. Romulans have an actual prosthesis (in a V-shape) across the forehead. While this can be mimicked with make-up, a true Romulan look cannot be achieved without the prosthetic applique. Long story short - if you are doing a Vulcan or a Romulan - you are doing make-up. I wish you the best with your look! If you haven't done a lot with make-up, there is a great show on the SyFy channel called "Face Off". Not only is it entertaining, but it shows a great deal of technique. Live long and prosper! facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153132963967472&set=t.743187471&type=3&theater
Ron Hancock I understand, then I was in the wrong. No, I just wanted to style my eyebrows differently and was looking for good styles, bu doing a random google search found no good style except for the thumbnail of this video.
Video from 1985 Mississippi All-State Lions Band ua-cam.com/video/qy1d8UZ9BZI/v-deo.html
If anyone has ANY video or audio recordings for the MS Lions Band for 1986, 1987, 1988, &/or 1989, PLEASE post them & let me know! The kids now-a-days are SO lucky to have so many ways to record their experiences in the band that we never had!! I've got BOXES of photos & 1 video somewhere (from the Tiawan trip they made available to buy) that I will hopefully one day finally put online. :)
+Malin Freeman Hey were did you buy the video, I would love all of that from 1986 1987 1988. I can send you a usb stick for transfer if you need or provide a link for upload. just let me know.
Thank you for posting this!
Please let me add this, Thank you very much for posting this. It did bring back very good memories!
I was a member of the Pride in 1992 (Played Mellophone) and remember this show. I didn't care for the repertoire that year. However it was VERY hard to top the James Bond show of 1990.
How's it feel to know your busted trying to steel my idenirty you thief.
+ronald hancock ??? What are the chances that we have the same middle name too? That would be bizarro.
Where did you get the wig from?
+Rick Moore, Its been a few years. Can't remember where I bought the wig. Checked online just now. THis should be the exact same one www.blockbustercostumes.com/p-10285-adult-star-trek-spock-into-darkness-vulcan-wig.aspx?CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=130000390000000412&cadevice=c&gclid=CjwKEAjw7O6vBRDpi7O-8OWSkwESJACNFsgxB5e4cAcWWdQ_ub2v8siWZ0tGkqO-R_aaigngEsAnJhoCoyjw_wcB
Great looking make-up ... spot on with the eye-brows. I was wondering wear you purchased the ears / ear-tips?
Evangelical Covenant Church of Pomeroy Thanks for the compliment. I believe I purchased my ears from this site: www.aradanicostumes.com/large_space_ear You'll need a little bottle of spirit glue too.
Why do I feel like I need to here this?
You mean, hear, as in to listen to it? Give it a try and see what you think. The piece is named after the ancient constellation of Ophiuchus (aka The Serpent Bearer). It is written specifically for 8 Tubas and 8 euphoniums. The predecessor instrument of the tuba was an instrument called the serpent. Its an interesting backstory.
Who cares, I like it! :P
You have the BEST video I have seen, ever on make up for a Vulcan.
Raven Antonia-Marie Shucks, you know how to make a Vulcan blush!
Fantastic performance! Thanks for sharing.
Love it & LOL..."no woodwinds were harmed during filming of this."....I remember one game at Auburn much like this, and we woodwinds sat in the stands with covered instruments and the the remainder took the field...
I knew and worked for Dr. Joe Barry Mullins in the '90's when he was director of the City of Hattiesburg Concert Band. I don't have any film from his era at USM. If I come across any, I will digitize it and post. Are you aware of some of the great posts on The Pride of Mississippi's Alumni Facebook page? You may want to join it if you have not already. Ask about Joe Barry footage there, too. facebook.com/groups/2229283251/
Many thanks Ron. Joe Barry Mullins was our Tennessee All-State Band Director in 1977, and I was mesmerized by him. We talked about my coming to USM to Major in Clarinet Performance. He was very intense on the podium, a wonderful conductor and teacher. He had 2 days to get us into shape, and he did. Had I chosen to major in music, USM was my first choice. I've remembered JBM all of these years. btw, I was hesitant to join the Pride Alumni Page as suggested, because someone posted that "they were kicking non-Pride Alums off." Thanks again for your response to my post.
Mr. Hancock, can you post any videos from the Joe Barry Mullins era?
NOW! That is an opening! AWESOME!
Horaay!!
I am looking for 86 and 87 recordings... anyone have them? Please share.
Eric, I have the recorded albums, but no player to play them on, but I'm looking for a way to have them converted to digital. If I ever manage to get it done, I will let you know & get a copy to you. :)
OMG! Thats so awesome. I can help pay to get them if you find a place...
Honestly the best Vulcan makeup video on UA-cam.
gracyvdd You make a Vulcan smile!
SMTTT!!! Geez, I love this band and USM with my heart!!! :-)
