I had this done about 20 years ago and now have stage 3 kidney disease! The doctors report showed he had to hit me with this pulse over 90 times to breakup the stone because he said it moved. I have a feeling that this procedure may be at fault, I now also have diabetes and an enlarged heart. I am one step away from having to go on dialysis, which you may live 5 years and it now costs over $110,000.00 a month! That's right a month! Which means if I cannot correct this myself, I am dead. I am not saying this procedure may not be the best thing to have done, but there is no warning and no ongoing follow up because my doctor passed away!
I'm so sorry to hear of your issues with this. There is nothing I can say to make those better I know but I am praying for you. It truly hurts to read your comment. I've been through a lot myself so I understand.
I have three questions... if i may know... 1. What was your kidney health prior to the SWL 20 years ago? 2. What was your EGFR, creatinine, BUN/creatinine ratio, etc before your SWL 20 years ago? 3. Did you have any other health issues 20 years ago before SWL such as pre-diabetic, heart issues in your family, etc?
As much as I can remember or know my kidney health was fine until the kidney stone became very painful. I was never tested as far as I know, but I have no medical records to look back on. Thank you for asking. @@StickUp_2
i just had this done and my doctor explained that when this treatment was first strting they did not know the power of the shockwaves and as a result alot of people damaged their kidney beyond repair.
I got a ureteroscopy procedure two April's ago, and I've never felt normal, since. Back pain, severe headaches, fever, pain from tailbone and right buttock going into right leg, digestive issues, etc. The list goes on. They really messed me up and won't admit it. They NEVER discussed complications from the procedure pre or post-OP. It cost 6k to screw up my body for good over what is supposed to be a minor invasive surgery. If I don't get some answers soon, I'm suing. I had this procedure while taking care of my mother who has cancer, and it made me more miserable than I've ever been in my entire life. Some of these "doctors" are nothing more than professional butchers.
Dr Jenkins, Thank you a million for the GOS and making it available, helps understand the range of options and help patience education.
