A Wander Round Old Belper
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому
Belper historian, Adrian Farmer, takes us on a walk round the Belper of old.
My Great grandfather had a shoe repairers on the Butt's and also made clogs and was known as Cloggy Wass. My Aunt Clara Brown was the caretaker of Field Head Chapel and remember it well. 😊😊😊😊😊
Cloggy Wass was well known throughout the town.
Incidentally I used jto work at makeney house which is now a luxury hotel.
I was born and bred in Milford and this is very interesting as the Strutt family was by this time not as active and the properties were being sold off.
Brilliant thank you very much👍👍👍
Great narration by Adrian and interspaced with so far unseen photographs of Belper. There was even mention of my 3rd G/Grandfather Abraham Jennison. I still think he was innocent and "fitted up" 🤣 Looking forward to more.
Very good but you can see they still managed to ruin or pull buildings down mostly after the war and replace them with monstrosities
I went to Belper today, inspired by a slide show by you Adrian. I walked around for over 2 hours it was great. Belper has some beautiful streets and buildings. 🙂
So pleased my video brought you into the town. Hopefully you'll return - there's so much to see. Fantastic independent shops and cafes too.
@@adrianshistoricbelper yes I will definitely return. I went Cromford as well, I'm not far away in Leicester. Best wishes
Nice video ❤😊
Thank you so very much for this. It includes the birth of my material grandmother!
Great to hear you enjoyed it. Send our love to Didi.
Very interesting. I found your channel after watching the Strutt community video on derby historic trust . The info in that was fantastic. Thank you.
Hi, this is a fascinating channel. will you be uploading any more of your talks to UA-cam?
Work has been manic this year but yes, a new video will appear before the end of the year.
@@adrianshistoricbelperlook forward to seeing More. 👍🏼
Fantastic video, thank you! Would you have any information on the old children home, "Fernslope" on Chesterfield Rd, part of Church View? Thanks!
Another great video. I just love these!
Honestly fascinating stuff! I should be getting ready for night shift, but I took some time to watch this. Great video! Hello from Idaho!
What a smashing video! Great to hear the snippets of everyday Belper folk. I especially like the accounts of the pubs owned by the various Watson’s, as well as the Watson fighting with people outside the local gin shop! Thanks for bringing these stories to life.
What a great report, Adrian, thank you for all the time and effort you put into it.
I've lived in Belper for the past 17 years, this was lovely to see thank you.
I really enjoyed this!Though it was a bit dizzying! You weren't speaking too fast, it's just putting it all together in my head! Especially living up in Shipley Yorkshire for twenty years. But I do return now and again!
congratulations! Great little videos, I hope there will be more on this
Great video!
I live at The Butts! Very interesting, great video.
Wonderful video, really enjoyed it! A real treat while doing some family research to see what it looked like.
I use to live in Belper over 20 years ago.
my mother was born at makeney hall when my grandfather was head gardener late 1935
Lovely Thank-you Adrian
