A Factitious Disorder Imposed On Another (FDIA: DSM-5 300.19) is a false pathology - there is no authentic cause to the child's symptoms. Diagnosis FDIA requires ruling-out real causes, once real causes are ruled-out... it is a false (factitious) pathology.

The assessment protocol for the pathology in the family courts is the Diagnostic Checklist for Pathogenic Parenting and the Parenting Practices Rating Scale. These two symptom documentation instruments should be routinely collected and reported every time by all involved mental health professionals. Doing this will accurately resolve the diagnostic issues in the family courts.

We cannot solve this for one child or one family until we solve it for all children and all families everywhere.

Out of everybody else I've heard, when describing the topic of Child Psychological Abuse, in my case you are spot on. Literally feels like you know my son and my situation. I just wished I could get some help for him, we've had no contact for the past year 😭😭. I've lost him, now I'm losing myself. It's a nightmare.

I had to do a mental health assessment for work. I filled out about 100 pages of questionnaire. Did a tova test and met with a doctor for 30 minutes. The questionnaire was put into a computer generator and gave about 6 pages of output. My psychiatrist told me the cost was probably about $15,000 to the employer.

The children are going to have to step forward and tell their stories as adults. They have more clout than the targeted parents do.

I don't think it takes a PhD to know our legal system has more purpose than to deal with crimes. What does he think is the difference between civil and criminal court. I wish he didn't say that, and would stop saying that. Makes him sound like a fool.

Rock on Dr. Childress. Thank you for all you have done. We all are just growing up and will learn much later on. Think most of the men watching can smell petty and smug within a sentence or two. We all get a touch of it now and then. Hell, we can sense retardation within the first few words. "I don't think..." I too have had times where I just ain't thinking. Take heart, there are those alive who watch the videos in their entirity. Keep the course. We the ignorant and our children are out here. I understand this presentation, has answered many questions and raised appropriate concerns, and I am pretty dumb.

This was so helpful! I’ve been trying to explain as a mom of a son who my x-husband alienated him from me for years, even though I had custody. I’ve never had the vocabulary to explain it and most people didn’t seem like they believed me. His dad sued me 3 x in 12 years for custody and thankfully never won because he could never produce evidence to support his wild claims. He started in 3 weeks after I remarried. Always felt like he owned me and just wanted me miserable. He could never see how his lies and telling my son what a horrible mom I was hurt my son. Now my son is 37 and in the last year has turned on me and won’t let me see my 3 Angel grandsons “to punish me because I was a bad mom when he was a kid.” It’s like he suppressed his anger towards me all these years but I could always feel it and walked on eggshells to keep the peace. After having my grandsons for 15 years with no complaints about them, my son became infuriated with me over a mis-understanding through a 3rd party and wouldn’t even let me clarify. It set him off on a year rampage and he says the most cruel things to my husband & I. I have called 10 lawyers to try to get visitation rights with my grandsons who are very close to my husband and I. I’m told there are no laws to protect grandparents in the US! I’ve offered to hire a professional mediator, written letter of amends. He just finds more reasons to “punish me” and admits it! He always told me he was afraid he’d be like his dad. I said, no honey, you have your mom’s heart. But now I feel I’m being abused by his dad all over again. It’s taken me a year to find Darcy, just last month! I didn’t even know the words alienation or estrangement before all this happened. I am so grateful I finally found her. There are so many people out there reuniting families (they say) but if your a family who dealt with a wild narcissist who uses their own children for their personal gain no one seems to understand the damage that is done to these kids or the rest of the family. I know Darcy constantly refers to you and your work so I had to find you. I feel some hope that my family can heal and not pass this horrific pattern of abuse to the next generation. My 3 grandsons are 15, 10, & 8yo. My son overall is a good dad and doesn’t do this to them (until now) or to his wife that I can tell. But, he has “snapped” & once he got angry he is like a wild beast to me, not physically but emotionally. I’m sorry for the long reply. I just haven’t had anyone who understood what I’m dealing with. I’ll definitely be connecting to Darcy. She is Heaven sent and all her programs are well worth every dollar. No counselor, lawyer or even police were ever able to truly understand & help me. They just aren’t skilled enough in this personality type. Thank you again for your reassurance and all your own incredible work and for taking Darcy under your wing even though she may not have the pedigrees, she has the intelligence, saviness, guts and instincts that God himself must have poured into her! You’re a Blessing to support her work so highly!

These are the same people who have shapeshifted Gardner's "Parental Alienation" into the resist and refuse dynamic out of the AFCC death star. Overcoming Barriers was never a four-day workshop it was a camp where the whole family went and stayed in different pods at the camps. all pathogenic parents together, all children together and all rejected parents together. This is where the flying monkey garnered the phrase camps and tried to lump the High Road into their delusional summer camp theory. They presented after our presentation at the AFCC conference in 2017 and got everyone all up in arms stating that reunification does not work. Sigh!

In Germany (where I live) my understanding is the generally DSM-5 is not used in public medicine but instead the ICD-11 system. In ICD-11 too it is the generic code for Münchhausen by proxy, and not a special code for what is by many lay people among themselves referred to as PAS, for this very common form of child and domestic abuse in parental separation cases.

Isn't it just a term that embodies psychological child abuse and all the 17 alienation strategies? Having a term for it surely isn't a bad thing. I would have thought child psychological abuse is too broad. You're one of the leading authorities on this so I'll definitely have a think about what you're saying. Thanks for all your work in this area.

    • @jugendamthamburg-ggkonform381

I am in Germany and people confuse terms (I do not mean the people are confused but rather the same term can mean different things in different contexts) so it is helpful to have something that is in the current DSM-5 to use in legal situations and in insurance-company billing situations. So, affected persons can maybe use 'PAS' among themselves as laypeople, but in court and insurance or other taxpayer-funded situations if one actually wants taxpayer or insurance company funding as well as power from a court to fix the problem one is best served to use the terms that are used by professionals in the legal and medical fields.

Another thing, some of the worst and most gross tactics is the recruitment of other family members in the brainwashing. “Buddy, I was there, your dad tried everything to get her to be a mother to you. She’s just doing this to get back at your dad”

Dr. Childress, I’m not sure if you’ll see this… I am hoping that you will. I found you by accident and your videos literally describe my life as the targeted parent. I used to become extremely emotional but I am among the lucky ones… my child came back to me at almost 15 after realizing he had made a grave mistake. I would love to share things with you on this topic. I have videos taken (outside in public where, by law, there was no reasonable expectation of privacy). I had to become my own advocate as he used child support court and family court to continue to exert his control. At one point in time he had our son completely brainwashed against me.

Its mind boggling how strong this pathology is. Funny that you mentioned beating with electric cord by mother. I was beaten by mother while still strongly believing that only dad was abusive. It resulted from convincing me that if mother punished me it was justice and father was abusive in his acts. I discovered who was true abuser after asking one question: How my father knew that I was "misbehaving" in his absence? Simple. My mother was "keeping scores" throughout the day in order to snitch to father with tears how she was abused by her children. After that she consoled beaten kid. Imagine that 🤦‍♂️ Women are using this tactics very frequently. Now im observing exactly the same behavior between my sisters and their spouses. Snitching victims crying their eyes out while in absence of father threatening with "wait till your father gets home". Its sadly the rule. But I'm seeing some exceptions with mothers helping to create love between father and his children.

KAYDEN'S LAW - RISK ASSESSMMENT FOR IMMINENT PHYSICAL RISK TO THE CHILD We need your expertise to develop a protocol for assessing the physical risk to children from the breakdown of a parent's mental health caused by the stress and outcomes of family court proceedings. Assessing for child psychological abuse is fine but what if the outcome of family court proceedings will result in either the child psychological abuser loosing contact with the child or the targeted parent loosing contact with the child ? The outcome for the child can be deadly. In young Erik McCall's case an assessment by the Court the his mother was a psychological risk to him and he needed protective separation was the trigger that cost him his life. The Court needs to understand that its process puts children in great danger. The Court needs an accurate assessment of how much danger it is putting children in. Below is the Coroner's finding from an Australian case where a parent murdered her two children after being driven to psychosis from family court proceedings. '225. The evidence makes clear that parties to Family Court proceeding can be subjected to intense, ongoing stress. It is also clear that such stress, along with cannabis use, was a contributing, if not precipitating, factor of Ms Glendinning’s psychosis.' TRUE STORY An Australian family lawyer once relayed a true story to me about how a family court Psychologist had a 'gut feeling' it was dangerous for a child to go on visitation with the non custodial parent. He relayed his concern and visitation was cancelled for that weekend. The child was safe that particular weekend however the non custodial parent took his own life. Sadly so many children get murdered during or shortly and after family court child custody proceedings. So often the 'gut feelings' of the people who work in the system are not functioning adequately or believed. The Family Court is a killing field that starts the moment parents' realise the Court is an option for them till decades later (ie children who are not raised by both parents suffer double the suicide rate and suicide is the biggest killer of adolescents). Do we want ignorance and 'gut feelings' to be sole lifeline for children going through the Family Court or do we want an outstanding Psychologist the calibre of Doctor Childress to develop a protocol for assessing risk for our precious children.
