Wild Hope Homestead
New Zealand
Приєднався 18 тра 2021
Hey guys, welcome to Wild Hope Homestead. We have a small country homestead in Waikato, New Zealand. I'm Julia or Julz, chief homesteader here, and the family help out too. I've been blogging about homesteading life for years; all about gardening, growing, preserving and making food, raising chickens, DIY projects, crafts and trying to live a more natural life. Most of my content creating is currently here on the UA-cam channel with vlogs about daily life on the homestead. With faith, determination, never-ending ideas and a healthy dose of humour, I keep at this lifestyle I love, with my family in tow, working towards even greater, wilder dreams for the future. Hope grows here.

The Christmas Festivities Begin!
December is here and we're getting into the Christmas spirit. We're hunting for a Christmas tree, decorating and enjoying the advent calendar house that we do every December, which is now an exercise in sharing with two kids!

It's time for a garden check-in after my absence and while some things are looking good there have been some saboteurs at work among my crops! Making an Easy Chicken Water Bucket (Side-Mounted)

We need a new waterer for the chickens so I'm showing you how to make one from a 20L bucket with horizontal or side-mounted water nipples. What Did he Find in a Scrap Pile This Time?

Steve brings home a scrap pile find and makes something fun for the kids. I'm attempting to increase our carrot supply by sowing more carrot seeds in both gardens, plus parsnips and more potatoes. And how about that giant spinach beet that needs to come out? Then there's dealing with the feistypants broody hen. The pigeons have got tired of eating my lettuce now and they've got a taste for my pepper plants instead. It's been so dry here we've had no snail issues, just the birds and the possums. Your poor tomatoes look like they could use a good feed. A few days of sunshine and everything will look way better though. Happy Holidays and Cheers!
@@ausfoodgarden Oh dear! You never know what the birds are going to get next. Yes, the tomatoes have had a few feeds now and are looking heaps better. Merry Christmas!
This is such a Great video 🎉🎉🎉 Thank you so much for sharing 🙏😃
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. 🙂
@WildHopeHomestead you're welcome 😁 Yes, definitely.. 🙏 Such great content 🎉
Dinner looked fantastic!
@@LynnBoergermann Thanks! It was.
You need one of those battery power stations. That way you could still run the pump and your power washer. I have an old one I used to use when we went camping. It was a lifesaver. Cheers!
@@ausfoodgarden That would be handy! One day... 😁
Hello friend please supporting me also 🙏❤️
👍👍
Hi Julia. Nice to see your garden beds all ready for summer. What types of tomatoes do you plan to grow this year? I'm in Auckland and everything is in now, as nights have warmes enough. I'm trying 3 kinds of pumkin this year and attemting to tame them by growing them up🤣I look forward to seeing your summer garden. You're really lucky to have a huge growing area. And the kid's playhouse project looks intriguing too! Lovely scrap timber🏡
Hi, thanks for stopping in! 🙂 I talk about what tomatoes I'm growing in this video, Should I Actually Start Seeds? ua-cam.com/video/bzlBAJQJlio/v-deo.html I haven't actually gotten them in yet (which is late!) because I had trouble with them after transplanting into individual pots with the potting mix I used. Good that you've got your garden in, that's always a good feeling.
You just popped up in my suggested list. Suburban gardener from Melbourne Aus here. I usually chop the leaves up with a line trimmer first so they don't mat up so much and break down quicker. I sometimes have a little helper too but she doesn't like to get her hands dirty so it's more answering questions and her telling me I missed something.😁 All good. Cheers!
@@ausfoodgarden Hi Aussie neighbour! Nice to have you here. Thanks for the tip, we hadn't thought of that. 🙂

@@evanmatters Yeah, it was rough! But at least it did get better at the end. Maybe one day when Scarlet's older... Thanks for watching. 🙂

I realized that said Autumn 2024... have even entered summer yet? Maybe I'm more tired than I think I am at 1am... it IS May 2024 yes??
Spiders?.........spiders....Hmmm...... I keep finding those monsters out in the yard. I try to put them in the witness relocation program......I walked one over to the neighbor's yard. Thanks!
You are so knowledgeable about chickens! Don't take it too hard, mistakes happen. And on positive note you will get more food and can start anew later on 💚
Thanks! Yes, it's a good lesson in trying not to do so many things at once.
Have you moved the chicken run? We're they under that fejoa when I was there?
We have two big pens for the main flock, both joining up to the main coop. One stays empty to give it a rest while they're in the other one, then they switch over. They may have been in the Citrus Pen with the big feijoa tree when you were here.
Cute chicks...I've just put 6 Barred rock eggs under one of my bantam crosses who went broody a couple weeks ago...my first time using a broodie do I'm pretty excited for the adventure.
Ooh, that's exciting! It is so fun watching a mumma hen raise chicks. I hope she makes a great mum.

Aw, she's going well too.
How did these chickens go? Did you just end up scattering the feed?
After a little while they figured out that they could eat grass! I kept feed in a feeder for them to make sure they got enough.

Excellent, welcome to the club! 😁
So did Angus get his money!!!! 😂😂 Love how he said, “you owe me $6” (is that $3 a row?)
He got some compensation. Sometimes he gets money, sometimes he gets a book, and sometimes he gets nothing but the work ethic of helping out. 😁 He probably did figure it as $3 per row. But he usually suggests $6 for anything. That doesn't mean he gets that much though!
