Final demo by Japanese Ska/Punk band Duck Missile, all of the songs on this demo tape would appear on their subsequent releases minus "Anxiety", as far as I'm aware, this demo is the only release of theirs to feature this track. Home Grown - Self Titled Demo (1995)

One of two known demos released by Home Grown prior to the release of "That's Business" on Liberation Records. I don't know exactly when this was released, I theorize that this was the later of their two demos, as their other demo (Pressed on a green cassette shell with a white sticker label) consisted of their more punk oriented tracks. This demo specifically had the tracks "Face In The Crowd"...

I produced this and played drums on it. This was done at a studio I ran in the 90s called Exit 6 Productions in Port Chester, NY. It was all a lot of insanity. Feel free to ask me any questions about this. I always liked this demo the best. We did an album later but this demo always sounds way better to me. RIP Ellis.

Thank you to Morty Sanchez for reaching out and I would have never guessed in the 2020's there would be an interest in Laughing Stock my high school band that looking back today I feel so much gratitude for being a part of. I'll take my time in refrain and try to give a snappy history of the band and the cautionary tale of what happened after. To the best of my memory Laughing Stock developed out of Vicious Fish which was fronted by Nick Nia that I played bass for. I think Andy Vo was our drummer but I don't remember playing any actual shows. Perhaps a small gathering or two but mostly just cutting our chops with such favorites as, "I Eat Children" and "(You're just a) Little, Little Guy". Freshmen year in high school (Еӏ Modena, the alma mater of the suspiciously similar-looking Mikey Day and Freddy Freeman, the former in his Senior year and was Nick and mine's comedy hero. Have his autograph to prove it "#ONE fan") we started to put LS together. Nick (aka Peukbui, aka Nick-nak-paddy-wak with us) focused more of his energy to the more established Joe & the Chickenheads who were our local OC heroes in middle school. Erik Letteri (aka The Whopfather) on my water polo team would replace him on drums, Maria Kozak (aka Maria Tortilla Strawberry Lady No Ma'am... -ihcr-) would learn and take up the bass, and Shawn Cameron (aka Shawntel...?) who was a senior at the time played guitar but beyond that would become the workhorse of the group helping to form my silly little diddees into coherent rock compositions. Like most garage bands there was often friends that stepped in and out throughout. Cory Hearst was with us during this recording- Cartoon was written by him. We also had a ceremonial manager Eric but I don't remember him getting us many shows. Really, I think we plated only 15-20 shows in our short lifespan. Mostly this would be at Chain Reaction which was still called Public Storage at the time, some bar I cannot remember the name of, and of course glorious, glorious backyards. We recorded this demo early in. It sounds like crap. Nostalgic sure but yikes. I will try to reach out and see if anyone has the CD we made in 2 days at Lo-Fi studios that is much better. We poured our hearts i to that recording and loved every rushed moment of it but alas it came at the end of our band's alotted lifespan. Shawn would travel to Pakistan to fulfill his religious duties and Maria's family moved to Riverside County around the same time. Not long after in my Junior year I would go through an existential crisis that led first to depression and isolation and eventually into drug addiction and obsession. What I know now was a very wondrous social life full of art and love that I had the privilidge of being a part of I threw away to literally rot away in a room forcing in vain songs far inverse to the sweet and playful that I used to write and perform. I would spend countless hours on songs that I had become too afraid to show to anyone. Every recording I tried to make seemed destined to implode as well. The frustration culminated and eventually in my 30's the addiction graduated into depravity and very, very disorganized crime. I have some years sober now and life is so much better. I still cannot pick up a guitar without pain and regret but have gotten the chance to explore creativity through mural painting and stand up comedy. Though admittedly I haven't done either for quite some time. Thank you for having this up. it was a bittersweet stroll to see. I'm glad to write this giving me a bit of closure and if anybody wants these old songs to play in their own garage band they are all your's! It's not like we copyrighted them or anything XD , Geofffreak

This is horrible and hilarious at the same time. The recording did take place at San Jose University. But only the drums. The guy who helped us with recording it was me and Aarons (Bass) music instructor at the time, Marcus Hemersly. He's still around! Anyways, we had to trespass on campus into one of the music rooms. We couldn't record at Marcus's place because he rented a room in some Victorian house. So it was just me (guitar) Aaron (bass) and Tony (drums). We recoded on an old teac reel to reel analog tape recorder. I think it was 5 inch tape. I still have it locked away in storage. We then took the reel to reel to his room and that's where we did all the overdubs. In order to give it some kind of production value we ran everything through my guitar effects processer, vocals, guitar, sax and keyboards. We had zero money at the same and took as much help offered as possible. Mark had no idea what we were going for at the time but I kept saying eventually we'd get tighter and write better songs but were kids in high school and have to start somewhere. He also said he didn't want his name attached to it out of embarrassment but we did anyway. A fun side note the police were called after all the yelling we did. The Slurpee thing, nga gaa etc. Neighbors said it sounded like small children were being "mutilated to death". We didn't even mix this demo or anything we recorded it onto a few cassette tapes, then all of us went home and started making copies of copies until we made about 100. I think Lodge and Mc Loaf make the J-Cards at Kinkos copies. It was very grass roots but we where determined to get ourselves out there. Thanks for uploading this. Brings back fun memories of being a young man.

I used to take classes at De Anza with Mike, who got me to go see them live. They were great.

Also, since this is more your domain, I'm getting some ska demo tapes in soon, would you be interested in the rips and scans when I take them? They're groups I just got on a whim, found your channel after I bought them and figured you'd be interested. SHOULDER HOPPER and DALLAX are the groups. I also have the demo tape of THE CHERRY COKE$ which back when they started were a ska punk band, they only developed the celtic sound with more instruments quite a bit later!
