    I once worked in coal… an industry that is controlled by Italians and Jews , and swears by the ways of nepotism. I’ve seen entire families working at a single mine location spread throughout all 3 shifts from hourly union workers, all the way to the shift foreman and superintendent It creates a very hostile work environment, as double standards are created. Those who are related suddenly think they’re above any rules and regulations. And they very much are when you step back and look from far away. I’ve heard stories from the past of foreman being terminated due to one of the higher bosses son’s needing a job. And so they fire experienced bosses to make room for their sons, who have no experience at all, but are being hired as bosses The coal industry is pure garbage. And all because it’s an industry that focuses on the moment, thus, failing to modernize along the way. If it’s cheaper to get men killed, then that is what they will do Workaholics are another type that are a disease more than an asset; for, their efforts are not what they might seem. While it may seem that their hard work and dedication is out of kindness and caring more about the mission, than is far from the truth Workaholics are only helping themselves. He who might seem like a strong ally and a friends… chances are that same person will be the first to stab you in the back given the chance.

    DEI is shit. Been disabled for years, they won't hire you on DEI if you are disabled and a white person, just straight facts. 10 years of unemployment, I've begged for roles at DEI positions that have taken less disabled people who are a different skin colour to me. Trying to shill this shit makes you part of the problem that is causing so much societal collapse and decay. WE don't want DEI because it doesn't work, you Didn't Earn It as many are coining the term, you were given the role based on characteristics that aren't merits.

    Companies value the people and departments that earn money and increase revenue and profit, end of story. That has always been the case and always will be the case. DEI departments have not shown that they bring value and profit to the bottom line. That is all a company, organization, investors/shareholders care about for the most point. If DEI initiatives could show that they brought a significant return on investment, they would not only NOT lay off, they would INCREASE the folks hired in the DEI department. Follow the MONEY!

    • @solutionsexplained
      @solutionsexplained Рік тому

      That is an excellent point. Maybe if the DEI departments could effectively measure their impact and how their add to the bottom line these trend would not continue. Better tools are need to show the value, because reliance on the moral value of DEI to do the heavy lifting is not working.

    Don´t forget democratic corporate governance -> more democratic involvement at higher political levels. In the end the literature strongly suggests more general revenue (this includes shareholders) but less revenue for corporate leadership; one reason why it hasn´t changed yet.

    • @solutionsexplained

      That is an excellent point. The "who benefits from profitability" is an important element to consider, especially if we want to incentivize the need to do things differently.

    I agree! The one who can take the necessary steps and make decisions as a leader is not necessarily the one who performs the tasks well in one area, it is even more unlikely that he/she is not the one who has been working in the same area or company for the longest time!

    My DNI group at a major fortune 100 company does the exact opposite... I feel left out, I have no true group I feel apart of... These groups do the opposite and cause division... I asked for a Mens affinity group and was awkwardly ostracized and looked down upon.... Plus they lead to lost productivity due to these groups creating "events" that have nothing to do with work...

    I found in my experience that a mediocre employee can be improved by putting good rules and policies and fences around them. There’s a process to evaluate that. If you challenge most people in the right way, they want to prove that they can meet that challenge. Keep them challenged mentally, and we have to show them that this job they're doing today is going to take them to their personal career goal. We want to encourage and be the Yoda to our employees. Ask them about their career goals. Be the coach to help them accomplish their goals. But you can structure challenges and goals for them - this helps you to stay in control as the manager. When we let employees spread their wings and fly on their own, they usually do better and they love their job because they feel respected and they feel like their ideas matter. If you can get them to think that they came up with the idea themselves, that’s the whole trick of leadership. Get them to feel like it was their idea because everyone always works on their own idea.

      Those are some excellent points. Placing good rules and expectations around employees and showing interest in their career trajectory are some excellent examples of how to inspire and motivate people. We couldn’t agree more! In fact some our other “The Basics” videos touch on those points specifically. Thanks for sharing your terrific insights!
