2012 Annular Eclipse
A tree in my front yard casts eclipse shaped pinhole projections onto the front of my house during the May 20th 2012 annular eclipse. The tree is acting as a thousand pinhole cameras imaging the crescent sun onto the house.

Milling machine CNC conversion built around an GRBLshield from Synthetos.com. The GRBLshield is an Arduino shield that can drive three bipolar stepper motors up to 2.5 amps per phase, and contains an open source G-code interpreter called GRBL. Stream G-code over USB to the GRBLshield, and you're in business.

Hi there, may I ask what size motors did you use and how long did they last. Thanks

I have a very similar mill. Do you have a full parts list and do you have any drawings of the brackets you made to mount the steppers? Thank you.

Great video, I'm converting my mill as well and it appears to be the same size. What size stepper motors did you use and what was the gear ratio you used for the timing belts?

Just watching that machine made me like and subscribe.I recently purchased a mini mill myself and have all the adaptors ready for the CNC conversion but untill then its good old conventional milling for me. lol Who knows you might even check out my playlist on hobby machining and like and subscribe yourself. great vid keep up the good work

Nice work mate. Have you found any drawbacks from using the grblshield? such as no backlash compensation? Also, did you have to set the steps per mm/inch? and how did you find setting up the part and zeroing the XYZ axis? is it an easy process?

Very nice. Are there programs available to run the mill with out knowing python or programing? I have mach3 but will it talk to the shield or in some way connect so as to run the mill? Sorry if I am not clear. I have Mach3- I have Cad- now to learn how to connect it to a mill. Suggestions? Thanks

both harbour freight and grizzly tools sell this machine. check out their web sites. its not quite a full size machine. it has about a 10 inch z travel but the head can be moved up and down to accommodate different projects.
