upwork.com sucks | freelancing as an artist on upwork
Переглядів 8932 роки тому
When I first found Upwork.com, I was really excited. I was searching for jobs and loved the concept of being able to pick and chose jobs as a freelancer. After spending 2 hours making my account, however, I came to realize that the site was not as perfect as I had hoped. Scammers disguised as businesses, grossly low hourly wages, and links that would download suspicious files onto my computer i...

These days, everyone wants to escape the dark reality of our everyday lives… inspired by Victorian and dark academia aesthetics, I took up penpalling and writing role plays full of drama and romance. But what’s even better? Combining the two! In this video, I start a fresh role play with a friend I’ve never met… written through letters on parchment paper, quill & ink, and wax seals! This penpal...

i m sorry that you lost your brush! That sounds so frustrating :(
TROY I COME DIRECTLY FROM WEBTOON HIW MUCH TIME UNTIL WE GET TO ORIGINALS
22 days to wait😭 and then wait a lot more to see what we now have in canvas.😭
The hype is real
I missed them sm🥰😍🤩😭😭 I love your work!
@@Alix02468 they're gonna be back so soon!!
Sorry really unrelated but I read the old comic and I’m confused, is Gisella in a poly relationship or is she just with the girl, or does she like ash, or will ash end up with the fancy man? Sorry I babbled a lot😅
I LOVE THIS!! I just found your channel from MY NEW FAV Webtoon cinderelle 😛
the dragon transition is so so cute 🥹🥹
Which one do you use model of graphic tablet ? I saw on your vlog that your tablet is a GIGANTIC 😱 and mine is a lot smaller.
I use the Cintiq Pro 24! It is large, I like the amount of space though I think I would be equally happy if I had a smaller size and a second monitor for displaying reference images, you know? I also use the Flex Arm, which lets me set the monitor at an angle I prefer.
This is such a beautiful drawing! I’m feeling inspired by you already to make my own!
I hope you have fun creating 🥹🥹🫶
:o oohh i'd love to see a tutorial on night time scenes! i suck at those
YESS I used to as well but there are some secrets I can hopefully unlock for ya!
btw if you're using obs to record, if you record your monitor instead of the window it will show all the menus and popups oh and the lasso fill tool comes default in csp! its found in the figure section
YESS it is OBS. I figured out how to fix it when I redid the brush tutorial. Also good to know quick fill lasso exists as a standard tool!!
I really loved how fun this video was!! The little day-to-day changes and the hobbies you've found once art stopped being as much of a hobby. I honestly get really scared of my art feeling like work--even with bigger webcomics I want to, or am in the process of, creating. It's relieving to see how you embrace the progress you've made day-to-day and take multiple opportunities to explore life outside of The Big Webcomic. 50 panels is a lot, and you got through it!!
Loved this comment from another webcomic creator 🫶🫶 what are some fun things you do that's not art related? I feel like it's bonus points if it's not on a screen because our faces (AND HANDS) are glued to em HAHA
@@troyzworld4820 Aww thank you!! 💕💕 For me it's little things like reading and also trying to be outside as much as possible relearning skills. I'm currently doing a summer day-camp job and while it's a lot to adjust to, I'm glad to have a schedule during online classes and art projects so I'm not rotting in bed. Plus scheduling outings with friends that (hopefully) work out is also a goal of mine haha!
@@haldiroot ohh reading is good I need to get back into it. I miss being a middle schooler who consumed novels hahaha! Also I love being outside too. And making intentional plans with friends is so important!!! Sounds like you have a good balance or you're getting there for sure
YOU’RE BACK OH MY HOD I’VE MISSED SEEING YOUR VIDEOS
AWW SO SWEET HEHEHE are you here from when I posted sketchbook tours?
@@troyzworld4820 YES OMG i’ve been looking up to you since i discovered you in like 2022 with one of your old sketchbook tours 😭 im genuinely so glad you’re back, i’ve missed your content dearly
@@IoossembIe oh my gosh clutching my heart!! That's so sweet!! I feel motivated to make more videos!!
Omg I had no idea that you have a UA-cam channel as well ❤️
Azureee hi you found me hahaha! Yes I've had it for awhile but it's so rare I post. Would love to post more 🫶
@@troyzworld4820 loved the vlog ❤️😊
Unrelated but you look like Daphne from the Bridgerton
Hahah thank you. And sometimes I get baby bangs too
I’m so happy that you got to ogs when is the release date?
None is set in stone yet but think it will be in Fall
This was really fun!
Super excited when I saw the upload notif! :3 This was a really interesting look into a comic creators day, and I’m pumped to see more videos in the future :D
hehe welcome to my world!! I hope I can put out more for you soon!
I’ve been working in a webtoon myself and I totally understand that the process always turns out slower than I expected. For my old webtoon OVERTAKERS, I was expecting to get all the sketches for 1 episode done Sunday, lineart Monday, coloring Tuesday, backgrounds Wednesday and Thursday, and rendering done Friday and submit on Saturday. I vastly underestimated and it ended up taking about 5x longer to get everything done so I put it on hiatus until I could get the sketching for the whole season done first as well as a few episodes.
I also like to have a huge chunk done before I start uploading... gotta build that buffer! Sketching for the whole season is amazing though, I do not plan that far in advance!! Good luck on your comic!!
Thank you so much! I’ll keep working hard on it! ❤
Omg I’ve missed you so much 😭
AWW TT-TT YOU TOO!
they do this because they can i copy edit on the site (my lack of capitalization notwithstanding) and it won't ever change the fact is freelancers are flooding the site because they want a better lifestyle than corporate anything someone will do it OK for less money, they will get the job done sorry but it's gonna be tough forever might as well apply to the local not too horrible health food store or cafe and that's it!
Upwork always sucked, suck and will suck because it is cheap labor and poor quality of clients. They also create fake job posts for freelancers to make them pay connects in order to bid on project. It is not a professional platform at all, please fellow freelancers stop using it in hopes another big player will take over that values design and transparency.
i just have to say, you’re incredibly entertaining and fun to watch. your advice is also great! the reason i use upwork is to get my first review and some connections before i go completely self-based and determine my own prices. i was initially on fiverr but there’s no way you can get a job unless you list several hours of work for $5 total because the competition is doing the exact same…. art freelancing seems like a fairytale myth that we all admire but never experience…..
I've seen plenty of people be frank about the low wages people are looking for, but you're the first reviewer I've seen actually go into how phishy it is and the contrast of standards between artists and clients, and lack of protection for artists. Thanks for the helpful review.
I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying!! 😭 Really great work! I love how the switch to stop motion gives the afterlife a different and extra dimensional feel!!!
I love you😍😍♥♥
20% of UpWork “jobs” are Telegram scams that seek to rob freelancers. UpWork do nothing about it. No idea why they don’t block URLs since they say everything has to be done on their platform. Avoid.
you're so right, its terrifying!!! Thanks for the insight.
you should respond to all these and just like, draw them stick figures
Also that creepy psychology one is definitely some kind of outdated Jungian psychoanalysis BS.
they cant even afford my stick figures 💁
@@troyzworld4820 DAM STRATE
WOW! What a hassle, that sucks. Hope you can find something that isn't so ..... gross.
me too! maybe it's time to revisit fiverr
Eeeek, I've been meaning to get set up on Upwork for editing, but the fact that you have to use your real name keeps making me second guess it. I'm sorry you have to deal with that - it's such a backward policy. My sister worked on Upwork for a long time doing children's book illustration, so if you have any questions, I can point you to her!
I want to know if she has any horror stories 🤣and if she thinks its worthwhile, of course
Wow upwork is a whole can of worms 😬 I was initially going to use it but it just seems like a lot of the jobs there are woefully underpaying
Totally :/ like, benefit of the doubt, I think $5 is more substantial in a country with lower minimum wage? But unfortunately most of the site is offering grossly unlivable wages for a huge amount of work
FOR SOME REASON I THOUGHT THIS VIDEO WAS 10K+ VIEWS AND LIKES??? I WAS SO SURPRISED TO FIND OUT IT WASN'T. YOU'RE SO UNDERRATED.
haha, thank you for thinking that!! what an encouraging compliment <3!!
Great attention to detail. I'm hooked.
I feel like I'm on an adventure. Thanks for taking us with you Troy!
This was so well done ee!! You’re making me really wanna try this it looks like such a blast!!
it is such a blast and you simply must try it >:^)
Do you want to see more videos about letters from my penpal? I would love to take you on this enemies to lovers journey!
This is so creative and looks like so much fun! The spell cards are such an awesome idea.
The spell cards are one of my favorite parts, they have the opportunity to throw a wildcard into the plot at any point!
WHOAAA!! And I thought my letters during quarantine were fancy, this is WAY above anything I ever thought of. <3
take my ideas and run with them!!!
this video is awesome
i made my journal all kidcore then..bought cottage core stickers, i hate my life lmao
Absolutely amazing.
Sweet, you could tell it was Through The Eyes of a child. Loved the use of stop-motion in the afterlife and the portal was through the bridge. Nice work Troy and a great job.
This is stunning. And heart breaking and I love every bit of it
Wh-- No 😭😭 that's so fucking sad MY HEART. IT WAS SO GOOD
Beautiful and touching. It's great to see what you've been working on!
Wow. This is really amazing! So sad.
Now this is finished you can drive to giant from the camp! Also great job! You’re killing it out there!
The irony is white people were actually enslaved by the Italians and Europe during the Roman empire.
What kind of art supplies do you use the most bc I need inspiration
tombo markers are great and pretty cheap!
