Why I am leaving Italy..........?
I’m moving back to the U.S. after facing Italy’s tough realities-low salaries for young professionals and overwhelming bureaucracy. Despite the beauty and culture, it’s hard to build a future here. I still LOVE Italy, but it's hard here.
Watch to hear more about my experience and what’s next!

I'm from Brazil and I am literally crying because our currency here is Real (R$), and 6 Real = 1 Euro, which is HUGE and EXTREMELLY expensive. The minimum wage here is R$1.300, which in Europe is 208 Euro, which is simply nothing! My dream is to study Architectural Design at Politecnico di Milano but the prices and the living cost in Milan really afraids me off, thinking that my parents will pay everything from Brazil with our currency:(

I'm heading over myself to a country next door to start a new life. I'm kinda surprised you didn't choose to just slide over to Switzerland, since they have an Italian speaking region. But WOW you chose a helluva time to come to America. Damn, bro. Well, there's definitely more POTENTIAL to make more money, and I hope you're able to achieve your career and life goals. I'm italian and I live a few km from Milan. The situation you described in the first part of your video identifies one of the most problematic points of our country. I find it ironic that after a short time in our country, you have already understood where one of the problems is while many Italian politicians still do not admit it. Other big problems are extreme bureaucracy and racism. I would love to hear your views on these issues in future videos.

Yes, I should do a video on these topics! I honestly could do a multiple-part series on Italian bureaucracy. I will never understand why the bureaucracy in this country needs to be so crazy. Why does it feel like endless steps and constant arguing to get simple things done? It almost incentivizes doing things the 'wrong' way just to not deal with the mess that is the public sector.

You get the best food, best home design for your apartment, hands down the best scenery and nature. But with an italian salary, with no family help, you are just existing in Italy. Italian here. Also the fact that for some unknown reasons americans have a concept of ''Italy'' totally destroyed after 9/11 and the '08 Subprime Crisis (''La Dolce Vita'', a country permanently stuck in the '50-'90s loop, a never ending ''economic miracle'' and general optimism and relaxed life, the usual stereotypes of loud people with mandolin and gondolas etc etc'' doesn't help at all. All these thing were true ... but now they're gone. We're just an average western globalized crumbling country. Also i see many americans totally unaware of the big internal difference (North / South, Milan and the other cities etc etc)

9:15 no, there is a misunderstanding. In Italy you can't pay someone as much as you want, because each job has a CCNL (collective national contract). Companies that are not part of a "associazione di categoria" don't have to offer a CCNL, but by the law they can only offer contracts that are better than the CCNL in that field. What you've heard is that there isn't a "minimum wage per hour". Something that exists in many other countries. It's something that says you can't be paid per hour less than a certain amount whatever is your job. But all the CCNL say the minimum you have to be paid, how many hours you have to work, when you'll get an increase, what you can do and can't do. Unfortunately the CCNL are around 1000. So they are very hard to explain in a generic way. If you are a freelance and you make less than 85k you can have the Regime Forfettario which is very convenient and it has a very low taxation. 5% for the first five years and then 15%. But you can't deduct or detract anything, meaning you cannot subtract expenses from your income when calculating taxes. So it is convenient only if you don't have many expenses to run your business.

Thank you for your insight. However, I wanted to add that the situation for workers in Italy can be quite challenging. Typically, true freelancers manage multiple clients, which allows them to diversify their income and potentially negotiate better rates. However, in many cases, companies in Italy hire freelancers in a way that resembles full-time employment but without providing the stability or benefits of a full-time contract. These freelancers end up working full-time hours for a single company but are still classified as independent contractors. This arrangement often results in lower overall compensation than one might expect for similar work in other parts of the EU.

Milan is not cheaper than American cities if you take into account the average salary and job opportunities. If you bring your $$$ w/you from the US, then it’s a different game of course. Those prices are high if you make €2k a month, which is over the average by at least 5-600€

You are correct when it comes to the salaries. Since Italian wages are statistically lower than their EU counterparts, comparing them to American salaries would significantly change the variables. However, In my opinion, it is still cheaper to live in Italy. In America, you must pay for a car, car insurance, gas, and maintenance; our health care cost is the most expensive in the world. We must tip when paying for a service. Our groceries are expensive. And since many things aren't made in America we pay for overseas goods. So yes, the salary is less, but the money goes further in Italy than in the USA.

My daughtrr has an appointment for her Student Visa in a couple of weeks. She likely wont have received it in the mail before she applies for her Redidence Permit. Will the paperwork she received after her Permit appointment be e ought for the Residence permit paperwork meeded?

She will need to receive the student visa first because she will not be able to apply for the residence permit without showing the visa. So once she receives that, she will have a part of the permit process. She will still need to combine it with other docs like health insurance etc....
