I really enjoyed this, having seen your paintings in "real life."

I like looking at your pieces because the action of "seeing" them helps me to perceive where your mind was when you created them. The piece about your father-in-law's "funeral" was most influencing to me. One thing I didn't understand was why you mentioned the 2016 election when talking about the Sandy Hook shootings and gun control. I like to think that artists operate outside the realm of politics, while not being imperious to the effects of it. Somehow, your comment gave me a negative feeling about the aspen tree piece. For myself, I don't watch or listen to news because God/the Universe/the Fates will let me know, in whatever manner, anything I need to know to live my life successfully. I choose to be an artist because it affords me the privilege of distancing myself from the negativity of daily life. My art is richer and deeper because of my unlimited perspective. Simply amazing. Completely blown away by his use of light and dark. As a lover of Caravaggio, Russell brings this to us in a very current and topical way. Hopefully, younger people will see this to teach them about master work.
