Drift Away (Dobie Gray cover). LTM Isolation Sessions 14
We're headed back to 1973 for Lasso The Moon's take on the perennial country soul song, Drift Away, most famously recorded by Dobie Gray. It's the classic house band of John 'Bonzo' Butler (guitar, keys, vocals), Jon Dunn (guitars, vocals (1:21)), Alan Holbrook (bass), Martin Scott (drums, vocals) and Wes Maebe (guitar, vocals (2:22), percussion) joined by truly wonderful vocal additions from Delphi Mangan Baker (2:03), Raie (1:08), Mark Butcher (2:35, yes him, the cricket fella), Dave Kent (0:12), Caitlin Lavagna (3:10) and Arthur Owen (0:26). Butch throws in a few tasty guitar licks in for good measure and Hampstead Heath glows dreamily in the background, stealing the limelight. Everyone has a good sing-a-long at the end, in the traditional fashion.
Neil Cunningham has risen to the monumental task of video production once more, coaxing us all into a semblance of order, bringing light from the darkness, whilst polishing the unmentionables to an eerie shine. Wes Maebe somehow makes sense of a million audio takes arriving from every which way which are magically transformed into a coherent track. Alchemy? We think so.
