"Our consciousness is the most important thing we have. We are always present, bubbling with ideas, thoughts, wishes, and language is what allows us to do so. Animals have to be careful when they come near us. Many of them end up in a pan, on a barbecue, or run over. But they too have a consciousness and their own view of the world. But they can’t tell us about it. But what if they could? What ...

Impressive use of language in that novel! When reading Hurricane Season, don’t focus on the sordid, violent events, focus on language, on rhythm, on what this woman is able to do with words, which are both obscene and beautiful throughout the novel. She is really close to be a genious.

The interview takes you "inside the mind of Hilary Mantel" ,,,,,,,,,,,,, Hilary proves that conducting extensive research on your subject-matter and the relevant timeline and characters, validating your research, synthesizing your inferences and fitting them into your narrative are so mandatory.............. What a fascinating novelist indeed.

Looking and listening to this man, and reflecting on his story, that hell he has gone through leaves every decent, humble man without a single word.. One of the saddest stories I have ever heard that had happened to an individual. His story is a proof that even "the greatest democracy" of this planet can become a fascist swamp in a split second . Hats off to the US self-criticism that has been happening through books, movies and plays only unfortunately , but the core, the main essence is still there: that country whose only population was living in tents and riding horses while my country had universities, parliament, libraries, scientific institutions etc. has been, still is and will stay a fortress of fear and paranoia. Until the large part of the US population (as we could see the last year, at least 50% of them) don't go through a massive the cathartic moment of enlightenment, we will keep watching and listening stories like this one.

Well he is lying. Greetings from Germany. In 1999 the jihadists Binalshibh, Shehhi und Ziad Jarrah slept in Slahis Appartement in Duisburg. Mohamedou Ould Slahi told them about the training camps for mudjahedds in Afghanistan and gave them the contacts. Jarrah and Mohammed Atta left Hamburg in November 1999 together and traveled to Karatschi Pakistan and later to these camps.

Did he mentioned that his German visa wasn't extended cause he was found guilty of social fraud and for using different alias names in documents in 1999?

Hi Larrypint, I see you are following every UA-cam posting about him highlighting your points. Indeed he did not perhaps quite put it the way you do. *He only mentioned that the leader of the free world kidnapped him. *Also he mentioned that the greatest democracy on earth held him in detention without trial for 14 years. *Oh he also said the great champion of human rights tortured him. And I note neither you nor America has denied any of these charges? Lastly if any of your charges were true, or a crime, he only asks why you did not bring him before a court of law and charge him?

Thank you so much for this thoughtful interview. I loved Rainbow Milk, and was thrilled to have a greater opportunity to learn more about its author. I came of age in Thatcher's Britain, and lived in a squat with multitudes of young people, many of whom were gay and seeking refuge from the judgement of their families. In many cases religion played no small part. I myself, though not gay was equally on the run from the difficulties and conformities imposed by religion. I appreciated Mr. Mendez' expression about the AIDS crisis. It was an unthinkable time. I lost 60% of my gay male friends to it. I also have close friends, one in particular who became famous in the fashion world who truly suffered the prongs of the biblical fork proffered in her direction by her Jehovah's Witness family - they shamed her for her success and freedom in the fashion industry, deeming it ungodly, and casting her out. Just a marvelous book and a really thorough interview. Thank you Jasper Henderson and Paul Mendez.
