He is shocked that you blatantly call him out on him loving you and fearing the loss if smth happens to you or him. That's why he is sort of dancing around the issue and this big word love. He wanted to start the argument with something like: ''i cant'' ask someone to commit to me ''at my'' age. So he is at loss of words when you just get right to the issue :D Its adorable

Hehe :D Spoilers: The Coffin scene is the follow up but you get mini dialogue during a mission (if he is with you) where they try to apologize to each other but ofc there is battle to be done. So after some major events, I think they both realize that it was silly to argue and proceed to the Necropolis coffin scene.

@@gemris9516 same to any other variation. I was romancing him and that had 3 different way to talk (not three emotions). And all ended an arguing with different words. The topic wasnt yours, he was worried about rook's risks to die in fight. But after this conversations i took him in party and characters was about 'listen, turns to our last arguing seems not the right place to apologize we'll talk back to home i promise'

Now that you mention it, hm, I would say so yes. :D I was always more of a fan of DA:O elves and LOTR elves. Seen loots of little elven Rooks with bubbly pixie faces + long hair and it just wasn't for me.

Emmrich is supposed to be in his 50’s or 60’s. According to BioWare the oldest your Rook can be is their early 40’s. A 20 year age gap is still a big thing

Especially if your Rook is an elf, so their Rook here could be like 10 years older than him but still look 20s/30s lol

Tbh, I think this is just an excuse... Its not really about the age difference. you could be a year younger and he would make that a reason. He is scared, about dying, loosing those he loves, about those that love him loosing him, there is a lot of anxiety and fear tangled up inside of him. And I think we should have gotten more cut scenes were we work through that fear. I also think we should have gotten more cut scenes that would have let up to that point and the fight. At least it feels like that to me. The build up and a resolution is missing. Still once of the most beautiful romances in all bioware games. But can you imagine how mindblowing it would be with 3 or 4 more scenes?

@@sinizade someone on reddit pointed out that he is homage to Vincent Price. If its true, it would totally make sense. His quest ending even includes "the thing reference".🫳😄

Hm, I read someone saying that Rook is around 25? No clear age is given. Besides that Varric calls multiple characters in a rather diminutive way, being an older dwarf himself :D But even so... Rook is your personal character in your personal fantasy and a lot of audience, me including are around 30 or more and I definitely dont imagine myself as a teenage girl while playing. Should people around Emmrich's age not play the game at all? So for me, this wasn't weird since age gaps exist, elves live longer and well... It is our personal stories however we imagine them. Take solace in the fact that Emmrich worries about him being older later on :>

@gemris9516 precisely, my Rook is even older than me I always wanted female older characters to have a more prominent place in fantasy and action media because I realizes that it was (growing up) a representative notion that women above a certain age wouldn't make good main action or fantasy characters. that fortunately has changed, but it's still not common, especially in fantasy books that are completely overrun with teen or very young adult main female characters. Also people forget that Varric wasn't a spring chicken anymore and basically anyone younger than him he tends to calls kid because its just the way he acts: like a bigger brother pushing you to do the best you can !(irl I have friends that call me kid but are just a couple of years older).

Not everyone's tastes have to match yours. Some part of the community likes this age difference. Finally, something has appeared in the game that will satisfy this need. And I don't find it disgusting. I like it, I love it. I love the dynamic of the relationship between an adult character and a strange young one. Why are we even discussing who should or shouldn't do what? As long as everything is observed within the framework of the law, it should be allowed and not censured. Although there is the same LGBT person in this game who is censured by some part of the world. In my country, this is generally prohibited, but at least I can build non-standard relationships in the game. The only thing I agree with you on is that the developers were too lazy and we can't choose the age of the Rook

Rook is absolutely not supposed to be a teenager. I'm confident there's no evidence of that in the game. Yes, Varric calls them 'kid', but it is a form of endearment -- the character is by no means an actual child.
