Aliens with exoskeletons probably developed on smaller worlds with lower gravity. The exoskeletons would be necessary to keep their bodies from breaking and protect their internal organs. Tentacles also would be an indication of lower gravity origin, like that of cephalopods.

I think what's happening is the script has it as "Dr. Chen" and the AI is reading the period as end of sentence.
"Doctor.................... Sarah Chen". "Your bodies are so......... soft". You need an AI that sounds better!

It feels like a really clumsy and simplistic summary of a really good and complex story. At some point it lost in translation all the little bits that connected the parts, and made it really good. It's like someone summarizing the Willow film, saying that a short person was a wizard and had a pet goat.
