I don't have any fancy experiences with summer research programs (was planning to do one over this summer but didn't work out), but I was hoping I could take a MOOC on Coursera related to my subject and then write a research paper independently and include that experience in my ps? Would that still be beneficial?

so you write notes from lectures as they go, then a month before the exams, do a past paper and then make a cheat sheet from notes + mistakes on past paper?
