MANOR PARK OVERVIEW - 21ST DECEMBER 2024 - 1ST VISIT
Manor Park station was opened in 1872 by the Great Eastern Railway on the line between Mile End and Romford. Originally named Manor Park and Little Ilford, the station was built to serve the growing community in the area. The station has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years, including the addition of a second platform in the 1930s and a footbridge in the 1950s. Today, Manor Park station is a commuter station, serving thousands of passengers each day.
Manor Park station has 4 platforms. Platforms 1 and 2 are Elizabeth line platforms and platforms 3 and 4 are Greater Anglia platforms, but Greater Anglia trains do not stop at Manor Park. Platform 1 is for trains towards Central London and platform 2 is for trains towards Ilford, Romford, and Shenfield. The station concourse has a ticket office, taxi rank, and bicycle storage spaces, and is linked to the platforms via a corridor and stairs. There is step-free access to the platforms via the lift at this station. Manor Park station is in Travelcard Zones 3 and 4. The three letter code of this railway station is MNP.
Manor Park station is located in the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML) in the London Borough of Newham, East London. The next station next to Manor Park towards the west is Forest Gate and the station towards the east is Ilford. You can also change at Manor Park station for Woodgrange Park London Overground Suffragette line station, the walk is approximately 7 minutes.
Many trains do not stop at Manor Park. Manor Park is only served by the Elizabeth line, Greater Anglia trains speeds through this station. I trainspotted at platform 1. Of course there are Elizabeth line and Greater Anglia trains in this video, but I also recorded a GB RailFreight and 2 C2C services at Forest Gate Junction, you can see Forest Gate Junction from Manor Park train station. I’ve also seen some Class 710s, but that was not the train I was focusing on. In this video, there are Class 720, Class 345, Class 745, Class 66, and Class 357 trains. There were also some Class 710 trains in the distance on the Suffragette line. I didn’t record any Class 755s or any other trains.
In my opinion, I think that Manor Park is a reasonable location to record trains. This is because the frequency is very good, but there is a fence dividing the fast and slow lines that blocks the view of the faster trains a little bit. Apart from the fence, the station layout is good for trainspotting. It is okay.
Fun Fact: Manor Park station underwent a major transformation with the arrival of the Elizabeth line (formerly Crossrail). This upgrade included platform extensions, improved accessibility, and a new station building.
