Is there any information about how those gears were cut?
In the early days of mechanical timekeeping, this was all there was. There was no dial to read the time. Early mechanical clocks only rang bells. Verge escapements weren't very accurate, I've read that they could be as much as 15 minutes off. Hence, before pendulums were used to regulate the speed of the movement, minute hands were uncommon.

What I found impressive is how the builders cut those gears. Were the teeth chiseled, or was there dedicated gear cutting equipment at that time?
