My 16 340i with bm3 93 tune (estimates 75hp/90tq)has very nice pull. Pulls up to 160 and still had some left. Love the super sleeper aspect of it too.

People will always buy the newest model because most people who buy these cars are not enthusiasts, have no idea what they're buying, and just want a nice badge and a good looking car to show off. But anyone who is an enthusiast would know A) who gives a fuck who you're pulling on? These aren't dragsters. Even a base Camaro SS will pull on these cars easy. We buy these sports cars for their handling ability, how they feel,how they drive- while being able to daily comfortably. If you bought this car for straight line speed, you're a moron. B) that the e90 is all around the better drivers car. Hydraulic rack (better steering feel), better brake pedal feel, better connection with the car overall- I mean the bottom line is, yes, the 340i is faster on paper, but unless you're a pro driver, most people are going to be faster in the e90 on track. The confidence you get by being connected to the car is everything. Now I've owed two e90s, two f30s, and an f10. I can tell you without a doubt the e90s were the funner cars to drive, and more confidence inspiring as well. The f30s were too numb. I'll always prefer my current 150k mile e90 to any f30. Hopefully, with the new gen, they bring back the feel of the car and the fun factor.

Nope you're only missing this: To add to what you're saying about the N55 then the new M2 carries the same variant with a few minor changes to it and stock for stock it would destroy any stock N54 if the engine produced so much more power as they like to believe it does (in reality it does but not an excessive amount). Plus from the factory the N54 has to have 2 turbochargers just to be able to beat the N55 with its' single twin scroll turbocharger. Can you imagine what a race would be like between an N55 with its' twin scroll and if BMW made the N54 with only one turbo instead of the twins? I bet any amount of money the N55 would not only walk it, it would destroy it, this shows you that it isn't so much the motor itself in the N54 that is supposedly so much better but it is the additional turbocharger that give it the advantage over the N55. One other thing to keep in mind, the M4 and other cars run similar upgraded versions of the N55 in them in the S65 and there are modded N54s (without singles) that can't beat them, so again the N55 and variants of it flex its' muscle and shows that it is the superior engine when it comes to fully stock from the factory (this when you are not including the turbos themselves).

soldierviejo I know I’m late and all, but you have absolutely no idea what your talking about and I can bet my life you don’t even own a n55 much less a n54 lol, the n55 was made to be a more reliable n54, it’s literally the same motor BUILD wise, minus the twin turbo. But the n55 is DEFINITELY the weaker motor. The blocks don’t hold as much, full bolt ons don’t net you as much, and they blow up FAR more often than n54s lol. Just FYI.
