Oh it’s got a Roadranger 8LL dump truck transmission that’s like a 9 speed overdrive, with a Lo-Lo gear that’s activated by flipping the blue button on the shift knob. An 18 speed is the other great dump truck transmission. The LS/LTS 9000s were available with the Cat 3406 a and b. The 425hp Cat 3406b was only available in the LTL9000 and LTLA9000 series. The Cat 3406b was a favourite spec of owner operators, and then the 12.7L Detroit Series 60 took over that mantle in the ‘90s.

Is that a 3406b in an LNT-9000? Ford never sold LNT9000s with Cat 3406a or b blocks. They only installed the 3406a an b blocks in L9000s, LNT9000s, LTL9000s and LTLA9000s. There wasn’t enough under hood space for a 3406 in the short nose LN9000 series.

I come from a trucking family & we’ve owned many trucks through the years…Detroit, Cummins, Cat & even gas powered. We’ve had great luck with Cat & Series 60 Detroits & I love their sounds. I’m not sure I’ve even seen the Walking Floor in action before. Quite interesting. Nice old Ford! Great body style those L9000 rigs. Ford sure made some beautiful trucks back in the day! Good stuff.
