Was it safe to plasma cut on the van? What precautions did you take? I'm worried I could fry electronics on the van or have some current flow into the gas tank. I believe the gas tank is right under that seat rail.

Ford and their infinite wisdom...I found out on the side of the road under pouring rain that I don't have a key, grinder or anything to fix a spare

Thanks, I just took my vise-grips popped the safety lock out and am good to go. Left the winch in place and crawled up under my truck - 2013 F350. Took longer to get the tools out than to do it. The Ford supplied tire tool fits perfectly in the empty socket.

The local Ford Dealership Scioto Valley Ford in Hilliard, Ohio texted me to set up all the recalls on my 2012 XLT F 150. I told them to fix my spare tire rack under the bed that the factory boogered up. There were supposed to call me back and never did. Schmuks!

Having to get towed to the tire shop to get my blown tire replaced led me here. Had no key to take off my spare. Looks like im cutting the spring off the spare holder. Kit didn't have the key with it

Actually I just made a tool that just popped the key lock out made of 1/2 " electrical conduit. After trying to drive sockets on the lock , then tubing on the lock all failed . It took about 10 minutes with a hacksaw and drove it on and popped it out . I would elaborate but I dont want to enable a thief .

Thank you so much for your video on a F-250 spare tire hack. I bought a used 2014 F-250 Lariat that had no spare and no tool kit/jack. You're going to save me a lot of heartache, time and money. Since I do not have a spare at this time, it'll be easy work removing the hoist and removing that insert, gotta love Fords. Fellow Arizona brother!

I bought 1 of these and the safety killswitch tether with the red cone thing, under that red cone looks like a little red button now, when you go to start it you have to hold that tiny red button for it to fire up and hold it to ride, is there a way to bypass this?

Thanks. 2015 F350 here. But damn, I did all this to discover that the damn key deelio had already been removed from the assembly and all I needed to do was use the jack rod without the key. Sheesh.

You are literally the first person to make a video that shows this key. I've been sticking the square tubing that comes with the vehicle into the hole trying to lower the tire but nothing grabs. No other video mentions is key, and my eyes aren't good enough to see what is down the tube but this may explain why nothing grabs when I try to lower the tire. I will now go gut my truck to find that key or I'm going to have to take it to somebody and let them cut the assembly out. Thank you very much for making this video!

I purchased an F350 that has no jack/spare tire tools. This video not only shows me what I need to get the tire down, but that I also need to check to see if I require a Key.

Is it possible to leave in the first bench seat, but remove the rails for the rest? Or are they one solid piece for the whole length of the van?

To add to this because I did the same thing. This rail isn’t all that bad. If you don’t want to burn the paint where this fella is plasma cutting the bolts. Just drill them. There is only 12 or 13 bolts and the bolts are mild steel. Center punch the head of the bolts (you will find that these are the circles you reveal after opening the rail.). Then use a 1/4” drill bit and then a 5/8” bit to drill into the top of the bolt approximately 1/4”. This will separate the head of the bolt from the treaded end with the nut you can’t access from the bottom of the van. Only took me 30 minutes after I cut my rails open. I did each stage at a time before moving onto the next. Another tip to avoid burning to the paint, don’t cut the holes too wide which will contain the dross and heat to inside the rail. You would only need enough room to fit your punch and drill bits. Final tip would be to remove the other long rail first and use that to mark where to cut the holes into the rail. That way you won’t have to guess where to cut or have to cut the entire thing open. If you don’t have a plasma cutter and don’t want to use a million cut off wheels to open up the rails, consider a 1.5” hold saw. I didn’t use this method but I think it would better than using a grinder with a cut off wheel. Good luck fellow Express converters.

I am so glad I watched this video before I ended up in trouble. Come to find out my key does not even work for my spare. Now my spare is dangling a little bit and I need to figure out how to tighten it up with out spending a bunch of money with ford

. Next easiest way is 24mm docket hammer on it . Now it did not work for me at first. But try and try I got it !! Than screw And twisted off key . I have no tire tool but the extension without socket Cranks down the tire and up fine.

I was able to lower the spare. I then ordered a new kit that I would need to make my tire changing adventures less exiting.

I just ran into my 2018 f-150. I used a 3/8 ratchet, 2 12” extensions and a 11mm socket. The 3/8 butt end of extension fit in the slot and the 11mm fit the ratchet/ square

Go to "Channel Ron" for "How to remove spare tire quickly without lock key." Place a cheap 14mm socket over tire crank end, where you would normally place the security key, and tap it onto the lock. You can then crank the spare down, and up.

That's why I couldn't get it to work the truck is used and the factory kit has been moved around and used I can't find that key

Dude if you are going cut things get a new assembly. Picture your spare flying through someones windshield because you cheeped out with a weak cable clamp. Come on man, that ain't right.

I am surprised the carpet and insulation are that thick. I am debating on getting a cargo van or getting crew van. The crew van is basically a passenger van with only 1 rear seat. I like the idea of the finished interior but I don't know how easy it would be sell. Can't really use it as a full passenger van and you would have rip out interior to use as a cargo van.
