Treating Boxwood for Leafminer!
Preventatively treating all the boxwood on this property for boxwood leafminer! Our team member Andy is using an insecticide called imidicloprid and injecting it directly into the root zone using a lance! Boxwood leafminer is a pest that can defoliate or discolor boxwood and cause blisters. Not only is it an eyesore, but if left untreated, they can even kill the boxwood and move on to the next one.
Through our dedication to safety, education, teamwork, and the environment, our mission is to provide the best tree care and arboriculture resources in central Ohio.

    Terms like "undercut" and "overcut" are what make people get their blades and bars pinched in limbs. I call it doing a CT scan. C= Compression T = Tension The Compression side of a limb is not always on the bottom, nor is it always on the top if it's not on the bottom. It can be at any angle around the limb. But once you've identified which angle it is, just replace your term "undercut" with "Compression Cut" and fewer people will have their blades and bars pinched, which is really what causes many injuries.

    To avoid struggling with the saw try letting it do the cutting. Don’t push it into the wood, just let it stroke back & forward through the whole length of the blade. You’ll be amazed how much easier it is. 👌

    We always put a small notch at the top for the rope to sit in then run the rope over the top and down to the base to tie it. Gonna ruin your rope real quick the way you have it tied there

    My lilac trees are 15 feet tall. They are mostly bark with flowers on top. I understand you recommend cutting it 1/3 every year. Should I cut it down to the ground if its 15 feet tall ?

    I dont get it. You said aerating the soil helps improve water movment and gas exchange, but to tamp the soul to close air gap vecause they can dry out roots? At what point does too much air in dirt become bad?

    • @RussellTreeExperts
      @RussellTreeExperts Місяць тому

      The answer is somewhere in the middle. Compaction by heavy equipment, vehicles, or constant foot traffic can be bad for the roots due to restricted oxygen, but any air pockets are also bad for roots because it can dry them out. Tamping by hand eliminates air pockets while keeping compaction to a minimum. Porous soil is ideal, air pockets and compacted soil are unideal.

    I have a maple tree with a big 5 inch branch in my way. Is it OK to cut off a big diameter branch?

  • @Dirty-D
    @Dirty-D 2 місяці тому

    You need to dig your hole three times as wide as the pot. Trees need shallow surface roots. They don’t grow just straight down. It’s also good to use an air spade to get all the dirt out to spread the roots.
