Johnny Seng plays Neal Hefti’s “Girl Talk” on the Howell/Wurlitzer theatre organ in Mundelein IL.
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
During a private nighttime rehearsal in 1971, Johnny laid down this smooth arrangement of 1960s classic "Girl Talk" once described by Michael Feinstein as "the last great male chauvinistic song written in the1960s!" The song climbed the billboard charts gaining its own fame among swingers and lovers alike but was actually written in 1965 by composer Neal Hefti and lyricist Bobby Troup as part o...

Johnny Seng, an undisputed jazz master of the mighty theatre organ here plays his own arrangement of Australia's unofficial national aire, Waltzing Matilda. Johnny plays the mighty 4/23 Howell - Wurlitzer organ some time in the late 60s or early 70s during a late night rehearsal session. The still, world famous instrument is installed in the university auditorium on the campus of University Of ...
Barry Baker plays “It Ain’t Necessarily So” on the Wehmeier studio Wurlitzer in Cincinnati OH.

From the playlist of Barry’s inaugural CD of both himself and the now famous Wehmeier studio Wurlitzer in Cincinnati Ohio and released in 1995. “It Ain’t Necessarily So” is a well known song from George & Ira Gershwin’s immortal opera Porgy and Bess. It is sung by the opera’s main antagonist, Sportin Life a gambler, pimp and all around con-man who is continually trying to put a wedge between th...
Eden Ahbez’s “Nature Boy” performed by Barry Baker on the 4/33 Wehmeier Wurlitzer in Cincinnati OH.
Переглядів 5783 роки тому
Without a doubt, the most ethereal arrangement of the immortal “Nature Boy” ever to be played on a theater pipe organ. Barry Baker uses subtle pastel shades where other artists (no offense) merely use primary colors in their approach to this mystical and nuanced piece penned in 1947 by songwriter, naturalist and father of the transcendental hippie movement, Eden Ahbez. Nature Boy has been a sta...

Tony Thomas’ own “TT’s Boogie” played on the DTOC Fisher Wurlitzer at The Iris Theatre, Detroit 1963

A rip snorting Boogie Woogie performed by it’s amazing composer, 14 year old Tony Thomas from Cedar Rapids IA as part of his DTOC Detroit Theater Organ Club debut in 1963 at the Iris Theatre, then home to the club’s (and George Orbit’s) 4/34 Mighty Wurlitzer theater pipe organ. 60 years later, you can still hear Tony play this as well as his wonderful “Mozart’s Madness” in concerts today!
Tony Thomas - Jazz Waltz Jam on the 4/34 DTOC Wurlitzer
Переглядів 5243 роки тому
Like the other videos of Tony’s 1963 concert for the Detroit Theater Organ Club, it’s amazing to realize that he was only 15 years old at the time! This original Jazz Waltz Jam just seemed to come from the top of his head. Tony plays with the same enthusiasm at 15 as the older jazz icon he’s become today!

The thought of victim blaming is overshadowed by the thought of allowing a domestic cat to be food for a wild animal. Then to turn around and blame the animal for doing what comes naturally in an area where the animal very lives seems out of place. When it comes to victim, blaming versus common sense, I sometimes have a problem, wrapping my head around it. I know it’s nature, but it still turns my stomach.

In the mid 70's as a very beginner learning to play I purchased a small kimball, went to next and then Gulbransen of which I have had two and still have. This recording of John Norton playing the large Kimball sounds good to me!

I saw Don Jenkins perform these songs at Delta Music in downtown Antioch, CA when I was about 11. My parents purchased this same model of Kimball organ after his concert from the music store owner even though they already had a Thomas organ. Delta Music sold mostly Kimball pianos and organs, but I remember they got into Gulbransen and Lowrey organs because my dad would drag us down there from time to time to see what was new.

I have graffiti written by Seng himself inside a chest that states “this organ redesigned by John Seng 1960-63”. He didn’t start recording until 1963; it took years to do the work to expand the organ from 15 to 24 ranks and all the other modifications he made.

Your bio above is pretty close to reality. She didn't have to listen intently to her brothers repertoire as it consisted of Chipmunks Lullaby and Palomino Song. The circle of friends was primarily made up of professional musicians such as Paul Beaver, Bernie Krause and Papa John Creech. Paul and Bernie became the first musicians on the West Coast to acquire and use The Moog Synthesizer for a variety of projects. Papa John Creech later went on to join Jefferson Airplane, playing his fiddle. Candi would jam for hours with these talented musicians. The above musicians and others held several benefits which included Candi playing along with the above professionals. Candi thought these were just big parties. Through these benefits, they raised enough funds to purchase a Hammond B3. Regards, Brother Bob

The definitive theater organ arrangement of this timeless and masterful work thanks to Lynn’s marvelous command of this sensational and famous organ. I had the CD from which this was taken, but alas over the years it has vanished, so what a delight to find it here on UTube. Lynn’s impeccable musicianship shines at every moment of this performance, almost super humanly knowing the complexities of even a modest Wurlitzer. Schooled with a first class facility in piano performance, it’s no wonder Lynn is the impeccable performer that he is, detailed and accurate split-second timing abounds bringing a truly theatrical performance to life in a way few others have ever managed to bring off! My kindest regards to Lynn for sharing his phenomenal talent with so many, bless you eternally! Adrian in Bermuda!! 😀😀😀
