Review of fundamentals of soldering and brazing including wetting of molten alloys. Proper wetting encourages capillary action and allows metal to flow into narrow gaps. Wetting can be controlled by selection of flux, solder alloy, braze alloy, gaps, base metal composition, and operating temperature.
Most solder and braze alloys are based on eutectic compositions that help reduce melting point, and at the same time control viscosity.
There are many options to generate heat required for soldering, and also many options for flux to produce a clean surface.
