We secretly flew Kevin to Japan. Kyle picked him up at the airport while I took Mom to get her hair done. I told her I was having a girls-only Mother's Day dinner and that my good friend was coming over. Kazuko arrived at the door. We had to persuade mom to answer the door and when she did, Kazuko said she brought a guest.........

Japanese sixth graders end their last elementary school Sports Day with a well-practiced, group calisthenics performance. The teamwork and precision is impressive and always makes me cry....even when my own child isn't involved! But this time it was Noah's turn, and just as with Mia's, I couldn't help grinning from ear to ear and shedding many proud mamma tears.

There's a beautiful bike path along the Yodogawa river through Osaka and Kyoto. There is usually no traffic except for the other nature/exercise enthusiasts and bird watchers. And it's a nice flat route from Yawata to Hirakata park.

Mia's last elementary school performance. Each grade puts on a performance....

" I Want To Help Save The World" Nov. 3, 2010 Yawata Cultural Center The city of Yawata (Kyoto) asked each school (6th grade ~ high school) to have their students submit essays about something close to their heart...."something you have an opinion or feel strongly about." One student was selected from each school to give their speech at this Culture Day event.
