Vintage Chinese Glass Bead Curtains in a Gallery Setting
Переглядів 18228 днів тому
A brief overview of a longer video I'm working on now about the history of bead curtains in China. In this brief video, I show video clips I made on Bead Curtain Installation Day, August 13, 2023. My helper had to cancel, so I ended up installing each of these bead curtains myself, not knowing much about electric drills or how to use a level. Nevertheless, I kept going. Acutally, the bead curta...

    Awe I forgot. But I watched the replay. Will you be touching on any gluten free treats that are low in sugar and easy to chew? I have Celiac Disease and no teeth now and so many autoimmune diseases and finding it difficult to cook now with being in a wheelchair. My friend said if I could get recipes she would make me gluten free low carb treats and food that I could freeze. So now im looking. If you know any good ones I’d love it if you could share with me. Love this idea! I bead and knit, crochet, sew, im working on my first quilt for my first granddaughter, Audrey James Margaret. Love her name! Thank you for putting this together. I look forward to next month. 💝🥰🤗

      Can you have sweet potatoes? I make a lovely chocolate pudding with them, 2 cups cooked sweet potatoes, 1 1/4 cup plant milk, 1/2 cup cocoa powder and 4-6 dates are the only ingredients, with a dash of vanilla if you want. you need a high speed blender though.

    I think this is from the Singaporean ethnic group called "Peranakan" chinese malays

    • @valeriehector
      @valeriehector 11 днів тому

      Hi @strawberry - many people would agree with you. It's a widespread misconception that all beaded slippers in this general style were made and used by the Peranakan Chinese. But some were not. Some were made and used in China. How do we know the difference? One way to tell is to look at the beads. As Hweifen Cheah has shown in her books and articles, Peranakan Chinese beaders favored faceted beads 99.9% of the time. The beads on these slippers are unfaceted....as are the beads on many similar pieces of beadwork made in China for Chinese people. It's entirely possible - even likely - that pieces of this nature were made in China for export to island Southeast Asia's Peranakan people - but as far as we know, those pieces were made of faceted beads. I could go on and on - but you get the idea. Beading history is sometimes far more complex than it first appears, as in this case. Anyway, thanks for stopping by - and please stop by again soon!

      Hi, @diamamatias - thanks for stopping by and liking Suzanne's Interview #1. She's amazing and her work is magical. Yes, she sometimes starts with ideas or techniques cfeated by other bead artists - but she always tries to do something different to add her own touches and spin. I'm not sure that she teaches - but you can follow her Instagram feed to see more of what she creates every day - she's at beadygurl_duchess_of_dover - and maybe you can leave a question on her feed, asking her if she'll ever teach? Anyway, at some point, we'll schedule a LIVE Q & A for Suzanne here on Beading Globally - and we'll invite questions from all who stop by. Date and time TBA.
