Opera Action Figures presents a loving animated puppet version of Vernon Dalhart's 1924 classic recording "The Prisoner's Song" set against a backdrop of cotton fields, boxcars, the breadlines of early 1930s America. Our other films include Ode to Akhnaten (based on the opera by Philip Glass, ua-cam.com/video/p_JtBYUUnDQ/v-deo.html), The Magic Doll (Sibelius E Minor, ua-cam.com/video/_dCkDONzzk...

A loving tribute in puppet animation to the works of Stephen Sondheim, including 18 musicals in 4 minutes and extended credits. In the process of getting the rights to the music, we were told that Mr. Sondheim had seen and enjoyed this video. We were thrilled beyond measure. Full credits below. Other Opera Action Figures films include The Prisoner's Song (ua-cam.com/video/4FIojqcbIyg/v-deo.html...

Preview of "Gershwin Station", a puppet film by Opera Action Figures set in Chicago's Union Station during the Jazz Age, the Depression, and World War II, inspired by George Gershwin's "Concerto in F."
Very good!
This is brilliant, extraordinary and beautiful. What a tribute 🙌🙌🙌
What a beautiful tribute.
the same can be said about kamala and biden brother...love the vid and love 1984
Absolutely. There's plenty of memory holing on both "sides."
👏
Good enough
I couldn't even stand to watch more than 7 minutes of this because of the screechy, monotonous violins, and didn't care about the outcome for all these FACELESS characters. I could not empathize one bit!
Ominous, weird, stressful, and uncanny. I love it!
Are there any other opera action figures videos? Inquiring minds want to know!!
Thank you, aaguero. All of our (8) videos are under "Opera Action Figures Lawrence". Not all are operas -- there's Sibelius, two Gershwins, a 1920s song, a 2020s music video, a 1960s Bob Seger B-side, and a tribute to Stephen Sondheim. Hope you enjoy!
@@amyterrylawrenceoperaactio4617 I'm sure I will - thanks!!
you guys should add Here We Are
BRAVO AMY AND TERRY!!!
So fun, so respectful, so clever, so needed. This is a wonderful gift for the many enthusiasts who lost an artist who helped define our lives through his music and lyrics. THANK YOU!!!!
👏🎉👏🎉👏🎉
Just came to watch this again. Amazing. Thank you for making this. You are wonderful
Fucking A.
<3
Absolutely amazingly ace - accurate and highly entertaining! Brilliant attention to detail (loved the clothes pegs)! I’m obsessed with this opera, saw it 3 times at ENO 2 months’ ago and would have gone back for more if it hadn’t ended. Now you’ve relived it for me in 22 mins with puppets I SO LOVE THIS, THANK YOU !!!!!
Truly wonderful. My favourite evenings at ENO several years apart. You are geniuses. Thank you
This is fantastic! So witty, too. I especially applaud you for Queen Tiye who is just spot on. Thank you.

Hi again, if you are confused about the message below, I replied to the wrong address. Nevertheless, thank you for your lovely comment. (We love Queen Tiye too.)
Conozco la ópera en su montaje con el Met the New York... Me encanta .. Y su animación me gusta mucho.. gracias por dedicar su tiempo al arte de la ópera... Y crear opciones para que todos se acerquen a esta belleza de Arte...👏👏👏 aún qué siempre recomendaré ver la versión completa... Y escenificada...
The moment when "Someday just began" and "Someone in a Tree" come together. Perfection
WOW! Thanks for this amazing gift!
Watching and tearing up in March.
This was incredible. Thank you.
Best thing I've seen in at least a month or two. :)
Loved the Sondheim tribute film - and now I find this Gershwin film. Thank you!!
Wow this was so magical to watch. Thank you for that! 🥰
This is a true labour of love, detailed and painstaking in the most Sondheim way. Thank you.
Brilliant!
I have now cried watching this multiple times (not easy for me) and sent it to all the family members I shared my love of Sondheim with over years. One of the most moving tributes I’ve ever seen.
What a masterpiece!!!
Lovely, Beautiful !!! thanx a million !
The only thing wrong with it is that in the listing of the shows at the end with their dates, WSS, Do I Hear a Waltz?, & Company use music from other shows instead of music from the correct show. Oops.
The music for those shows is all from the Overture for Merrily We Roll Along. Getting the rights for music by Bernstein and Rodgers seemed a bridge too far. As for Company, sigh.
@@amyterrylawrenceoperaactio4617 Why in the world would they give you rights to everything by Sondheim except Company!? That makes no sense.
two different publishing companies, five different music performance rights companies. Unfortunately, not all Sondheim works are in one place. But we're very grateful for everything we do have.
@@amyterrylawrenceoperaactio4617 So crazy that they wouldn’t want what really amounts to free advertising for those shows.
This is a beautiful and brilliant recap of Mr Sondheim's various shows. Love that you even included "Evening Primrose" in this. :)
I have something in my eye
Gives you the shivers....makes them think...
I saw the new WSS. I cried and cried. Not because of the story but because of the sheer beauty of those lyrics. What a sublime contribution
This is so loving and so clever and well-done. Of course Mr. Sondheim enjoyed it! Thank you! (Okay, now I'm going to watch it *again!*)
Wow. I discovered Amy Lawrence thanks to Thank You, Mr. Sondheim. Now I'm an Amy Lawrence fan!
This really helps. I watched it the first time this morning and my head has been filled with it ever since. What a joy to be able to revisit all his magnificent productions and music in 6+ minutes. A lifetime of magic. I'm so glad I lived in a world with Sondheim. Thank you, Amy and Terry Lawrence.
This is just fantastic! And how great for you to know that Mr. Sondheim had seen and appreciated it. I had a burst of joy when I figured out, after a moment of pondering, why we were suddenly in black and white. Inspired, as is the rest of the video.
Wonderful
Thank you for sharing your art in tribute; it’s impressive, it’s thoughtful and it means a lot to me. This is a treasure that allows us to reflect and you honor a great legacy. I’m very appreciative. Great great job!
It's early days for the life of this vid, but... zero dislikes, what more can you say?
Amazingly wonderful and smart. Bravo and thank you!
Lovely. Someone has probably already shared this but in "Merrily" it is Lonny PRICE, not Prince as you have in your credits above.
Hi Jeanie, Thanks for pointing this out. I corrected it on the UA-cam page.
really wish they hadn't used Our Time for 2/3 of this production!!!!
An amazing piece of work. Its similarity to theater with real people is striking: In both cases, the audience has to accept things it wouldn't accept in, say, a movie. Instead, they see a set or a lighting situation designed to emulate reality and are asked to let their imagination fill in the blanks. And, of course, that's what makes it so special. Thank you to all the people who worked so hard to put this together. It is beautiful.
This is beautiful. Thank you for making it and sharing it.
Totally delightful! It's the first smile I've felt in two weeks. Thank you for the cleverness, hard work, and love.
