Maiden Voyage -- Akai S950 sequenced with Polyend Tracker
My time is limited at the moment, so I give myself these little assignments to try and learn the gear I have. This one was chopping up the "Give it Up" break, sequencing it on the S950, linking filter cutoff to velocity, and setting up keygroups to leave space for bass/chords in the same program. I know it's basic, but that's where I am right now with this thing.
If you’re a #jazz fan like myself you will recognize the chord progression from the #herbiehancock tune #maidenvoyage. I have been a fan of Herbie since childhood, and most of the OG jungle guys mention him as a major influence, so there is some common ground there across decades and continents.

S950 timestretch -- classic Prisoner line
Переглядів 12014 днів тому
Step by step I am learning the ins and outs of the #akai #s950. Today it was timestretch. I know this is pretty basic stuff, but I am having fun making these videos. The Prisoner has always been one of my favorite shows ever since I was a kid. I've done a few tunes inspired by specific episodes. Plus, it's actually from the UK, so that gives it some kind of DNB bonafides, right? ua-cam.com/vide...

Escape From New York Theme on Kurzweil K2500

The name's Plissken... I recently got this K2500 and I thought it would be fun to try using the internal sequencer on a simple tune. Here you go. I'm not sure I will do this again, but I certainly learned some lessons about my approach to music creation and hardware vs. software. Looking forward to exploring this machine further. Your Sound J Majik Amen sequence Akai S950
Переглядів 17221 день тому
#shorts Continuing to dig into the #akai #s950 resequencing the #amenbreak here in the same way J Majik did on his classic tune #yoursound. Looking into getting the coveted floppy emulator for this and digging into more classic breaks. When you chop a break on here without looking at the waveform, I feel like you internalize it more providing a foundation for creativity.

I just finished chopping the Amen in this S950 and managed to get midi going with the Polyend tracker. It took a while learning the way keygroups function and whatnot, but was pretty fun, and I just wanted to share. Merry Christmas everyone! #shorts #akai #akaiS950 @Polyend #polyendtracker #amenbreak #breakbeat #sampler #vintagesampler #dnb #jungle #drumandbass

Re-uploading this because the audio was extremely soft in the first version. Sorry about the dust on the screen! I swear it's clean as a whistle in normal light, but I needed to shine a light directly on the screen for this video. Soon I'll replace the screen backlight. A Walk In The Woods: Halo Synth Cover
Переглядів 1843 місяці тому
The original Halo soundtrack uses a K2500 at times, so I decided to cover this tune on my K2000 just for fun. I'm using presets, but the sounds are pretty close IMO. The bongos could be tuned up a bit, the crash cymbals could be shorter, and the bass could use a few more articulations, but I'm happy with this. Also, I know that isn't the part of the game this tune comes from, but we're just hav...

Sounds awesome man
Interesting
Cool! Now i know that we can use regular track to send midi (and not only midi tracks). Thanks!
Yes! Tracker is my favorite sequencer by far!
Stellar job here!
Thank you!
One of my favorite tunes ever by you guys
That was awesome. Would love to see a video on how you programmed that tracker to make those beats.
Ok! Maybe i will do a video like that soon. A lot of the break programming and processing techniques were inspired by the UA-cam channel “Groovin in G” and his series on Photek.
@ yes saw his but please do when when you have time
Nice! The latency is barely noticeable
So what equipment is required to do the very beginning of this!!!!??? That rumble from the 80s!!?????.
That opening drone is an oberheim Matrix 6 (from the 80s) layered with a novation bass station (modern synth). The Oberheims really have a unique sound!
@progressiveoverload7320 thanks!! It's an awesome sound!!!!
Absolute cinema music
thanks!
Here is the K2000 video I keep mentioning throughout: ua-cam.com/video/I22o3oBU_gY/v-deo.htmlsi=lTGdM3YgPTaZBicd
This is super cool. I did some more digging and found out that this was used for the X Files theme song and even the XMEN theme song. That is pretty cool
X files theme was the proteus 2 I believe. Some of those same are on this E-MU unit as well I think. I want to do a video on that sometime.
Nasty
This slaps very amazing
Thanks!
@ How long did It take you to be this good? Also, does renoise go on sale? I'm planning to buy it this year
ua-cam.com/video/HvLfPxLV3gI/v-deo.htmlsi=srxc_hZaDHeHWD6j That was my first track in renoise I started about three years ago. Learning the keyboard shortcuts really helped, but I also had a background in playing instruments and that also helped. I don’t think renoise really goes on sale but it’s only about $70. Try the demo version if you’re thinking about it. I really love using Renoise.
Killer tune from way back, loving your work
Thanks for checking it out!
Nice!
I love how the repeating bassline ties everything together so nicely ..
Such a simple but compelling tune
dope
Green background and edited in post? Pretty cool!
I just superimposed the footage from the twilight zone with a low opacity so you can still see renoise in the background. I don’t know much about video editing to be quite honest.
Jazz and DnB are virtually the same style of music
Very nice, is this made w/ the synth engines?
This is all sample based. I haven’t really dug into the synth engines much yet.
@@progressiveoverload7320 You really should ;)
It’s on my to-do list!
That K2000 is nuts! Great soundin patch man, I need to re-rack mine and put some genuine time into it
Mine is out now getting the latest OS and a ZuluSCSI so I can save these presets. Can’t wait to have it in tip-top shape.
..I'm speechless right now...in a good way..❣❤🔥 great job!! thank you guys!!🎵🎶🔉
Thanks for listening!
I don't own k2000 but I watched and learned so much from this video to apply as technique for my own sampler I think all of us follow the same pattern without knowing, that putting it on the highest setting then rearrange it in a way we like or is acceptable I use it on everything even things like compressors and eqs
Glad you got something out of it! What kind of sampler are you using?
@@progressiveoverload7320 akai s1000
Nice! I am looking into getting a 950.
@@progressiveoverload7320 all them racks are great stuff even ones people don't like or recommend with your experience and technique knowledge I think you would love it but you should know it's different vibe with like an instrument playing the difference is like painting an art or make an art with photoshop you can paint with photoshop too but it's like using the sounds from elsewhere and make harmony with them somehow
I have an ESI32 someone gave me years ago and I’ve tinkered with it just a bit. Hoping over the Christmas break to have time to just explore gear without having one eye on the clock constantly.
Hold on this is actually fire
Glad you like it!
ohh man! Beautiful! Big ups! 💥❤
Thank you!
Nice! My most recent song uses this sampler, it's great fun for Breakcore as well
Great tune! really captures that old-school dark sound..
Thank you!
extremely sick
aw fuck yeah baby
i love this :D
Thanks for listening!
Drum & Bass and Jazz are so good when combined! First Jazz tune I heard with drum and bass influence was the Lonely Woman cover by Joshua Redman. Love this cover you've put up, that flute is soooo nice!
Thanks! Ill have to check out that recording of Joshua Redman. I don’t think I’ve heard it before.
Damn much love for this diamond ❤!!!
Thank you!
So Photek!! You nailed it! 🖤
Thank you!
3am vibes! Nice...
The best time for working on drum n bass
So dope
Thanks for listening!
Oh man I sold my fully loaded MP7 because I wanted a sampler, but now that I have a Force, I wish I had it back!
It is an awesome synth. I cant believe how expensive they are now
Drummer has chosen righteous ride and snare!!!
Damn this is cool! That Piano, Tho' !! 💙
Hell yeah
Classic tune🔥
One of my favorites!
Oh ~ I like it
Thank you!
Awesome~So cooooooool!!!!
Thanks!
is this kick in the beginning sampled from HL1 by any means?
I think it is from Jungle Warfare but I can check later. I do sometimes mess with samples from HL1 and 2 though, so it could have snuck in there by accident.
Gorgeous. Get that drummer compressed and whacked up in the mix!!!
Im in the middle of cleaning up a bunch of mixes from UA-cam for a more serious release on bandcamp/Spotify etc. definitely learning a lot doing that as well
Just needed someone in the tambourines to complete it...
Cool jam!
Thanks!
Nice work! 😊
Thanks!
Great work!
used this as a backing track for some improv w/ a small synth on a family road trip, good stuff
I just got it sunday. I’ve had the OG tracker for years. I like having the battery and stereo capability haha
This is amazing!
Thanks!
