      Yikes. That might be a need for a replacement. I have not experienced the spring coming out like that. based on where that is located, I would say a new one would be your best solution. That's what I do but I don't have a dishwasher. I don't like that mine is white where yours is Grey. I use my weekly for a lot of carrots. That makes it worse when your a perfectionist like me. Sometimes I don't wash it because I am too tired. I live alone. It the best tool. I'm using it for.my vegetable salad toppings now instead of a chopper.

    • @yourkitchensage
      @yourkitchensage 24 дні тому

      Yeah carrots do stain quite a bit. Since yours is white, there are some things you can do especially if you don't clean it right away. 1. Make a mixture of bleach water: 3 TBP bleach to 1 cup of water and our this over the stained area. If you can submerge it somehow this is best, but a pour over a few times tends to work as well. If you can submerge and soak, do so only for about 10 minutes or so. Then rinse thoroughly. 2. If you are not a bleach fan, you can make a paste of baking soda, toothpaste (I know, weird but it works) and smear that on the stained portion and give it a scrub with your favorite old toothbrush or other kitchen brush. Let it sit for 15 minutes or so. (I often let it sit for longer because I forget and move on to another task. 🤣) When you return, set it in a pan or a bowl and pour vinegar over the paste and give it a little scrub while doing so. This will usually pull some of the staining out. I hope these tips help. Let me know if you need additional ones to try. Best of luck and you are right, a mandoline makes so many more shapes than a chopper which allows for some great variation of texutre in your salads and other dishes. Happy Cooking.

      @yourkitchensage thanks. I had a sink with soap and a little bleach for something else and just got it wet and used wet brushes. Then I realized I could try baking soda on . I did this walker but thanks for the response.

You would email it to cheriebeasleypc@gmail.com and then we can chat about it. Without seeing you use it, it could be that you did just get a faulty one. • @yourkitchensage
      @yourkitchensage 9 місяців тому

      You are correct. A mandoline traditionally is used for slicing of various varieties. Dicing is a different kind of cut that starts with slices, but is not slicing really. You can achieve a dicing affect when you reload the hopper with your sliced items and then choose the same setting again. I would suggest though that if dicing is what you desire as an end result that you use the food chopper. @@yourkitchensage thank you….I have bought several”milk machines,” and I currently use a Nutri Milk machine….I could easily use half cashews and half almonds to make it creamier…after I watched your video a couple days ago I made more almond milk…..and just saved some of it in a glass jar for my creamer…it works great….I love your videos…. I’m thinking about getting the French fry slicer next…I really don’t have room for anymore gadgets but it will be so much healthier to make fries from scratch

      @@teresawinchell4994 great to hear that you have a tool to do that that you love. There are so many great tools out there and it is always about finding the ones that work great for you. :) Glad those tips worked. Yeah I get it on the room for gadgets. It is one the more challenging things about being with PC for so long. :) I do love the ones that do multiple things well. I am a proponent of having the right tool for the job, but when one tool does multiple things well, it is definitely a win. Healthier fries is definitely a good reason and what I have found too is that we have enjoyed lots of alternative fries like using turnips, parsnips, beets, etc. There is something really fun about that french fry shape with lots of veggies that makes it fun and food should be fun! :)

    How would you dice a 🥕?

      @yourkitchensage Рік тому

      Hi Hazel, I missed your comment somehow. Forgive the delay in response. It is best to use the julienne setting and then set the number dial to a size between a 2 and 5 depending on the size dice you want. Then you would feed the while carrot through and then gather the slices up and then feed them through again on the same setting and that should give you a good dice. I have added this to the list of things to demo with the mandoline so stay tuned. :)

    Why not just put them in a bowl and save the use of a plastic bag?

    • @yourkitchensage
      @yourkitchensage Рік тому

      You could. This is just another way. The bag does save a little space in the fridge. It is really just preference.

      Do the potatoes soak up more water overnight or do they reach their maximum saturation after 20 or so minutes?

    Carrot slices? Is it possible?

    • @yourkitchensage
      @yourkitchensage Рік тому

      absolutely! You simply adjust the knobs on the back of the mandolin to the desired shape and thickness that you want. I did Julienne in this video, but slices are great too.
