HELSINKI AIRPORT explained - restaurants, shopping, plane spotting
Helsinki International Airport new terminal
Food court and other bars and restaurants, duty-free shopping, plane spotting, and more.
Helsinki Airport is chosen as the best airport in Europe for its convenience for passengers.
It is tranquil and as silent as an airport can be. Even if you are only on a layover, you can taste a bite of Finnish calmness here.
There are even birds singing in the restrooms.
Also, sustainability is important for Finns. Souveniers sold here are mostly local and there is a quality second-hand shop if you want to buy preloved fashion items.
The new food court here was given a prize for the best airport food in 2024. To be honest, I usually eat on a flight, so I really can't tell.
The last time I flew out from Helsinki I did have couple of snacks, and I'll introduce you some examples on this video.
Helsinki Airport was my home hub for years and now that I'm back living in Finland I'm again coming and going via Helsinki-Vantaa. (Yes, the airport is located at Vantaa, a little bit outside of Helsinki, hence the name.)
On this video there are clips from my three takeoffs and landings between June and August 2024.

Is that how Romania named NAGYLAK which was it's name from the time it was founded in 1200 to 1920 and then 1938-45|
@@daverichards308 yes, (actually Nădlac, I just wrote it English way) and Slovaks call it Nadlak. What I understand it’s kind of twin town and called Nădlac in Romania side and Nagylak in the Hungary side (the old part). But I’m not familiar with the place, I just crossed the border there driving from Belgrade to Tampere. The border crossing is called Nădlac II (coming from the Romanian side), hence the name.
Border crossing from Romania to Hungary at Nadlac. Both countries are members of the European Union, but Romania is becoming full Schengen around Easter 2025. Before that land borders still exist and especially in the holiday season border crossing might need a lot of time. When we crossed the border October 2nd 2024 crowd wasn't too bad, but that was the case only for us. This is what it looked like for trucks. Europe has reasonable distances, but truck drivers still need to spend a lot of time waiting at the border crossings. What a waste of time! The first half of the video is queue from Romania to Hungary and the second half is after we had crossed the border and I filmed upcoming traffic heading from Hungary to Romania. I didn't cut this video as I want you to see the lines to respect all those drivers waiting to get their duty done and to head back home.
I think they announced now that it will happen in January.
@@daverichards308 it’s great if they can make it happen that soon. I feel pity for the truck drivers who have to wait for hours and hours to cross the border.
@@daverichards308ha, I just read today’s news and yes, January 1st it is 👍

“We road from Belgrade” Oh wow it’s gonna be like Zagreb or Bucharest or Sofia, what a drive “To Tampere” *..Is that in Finland?*
@@fishconnoisseur yes that is in Finland. If you check the map, you can see what is the difference in distance from Belgrade to Zagreb vs Belgrade to Tampere. 2200 km is nothing for me, but it’s quite a ride for a cat who was first time in her life in a car. The point is not even in the distance but about adopting the cat and moving her to the EU area. I see you haven’t followed our journey during our nomad years so I suggest you to check out our previous content or to ask about the things you aren’t familiar with before getting nasty. Is there something else I can help you with?
@@pleasebeseatedfortakeoff This wasn’t nasty at all. I was impressed with your dedication. Please don’t misinterpret this, goodness. What about my statement incurred this sort of response? The distance undoubtedly matters, especially for the cat say thing that long drives and border checks can be incredibly stressful experiences. I was trying to make a lighthearted joke about just dedication being expectation defying. I’m sorry if you dislike that.
@@fishconnoisseurok, so I misread your “what a ride” and comparison to Zagreb, Sofia and Bucharest. Yes they are neighboring capitals to Belgrade but I don’t really get your point here, I’m sorry.
@@fishconnoisseur and for your added text: again I’m sorry I read you wrong, I thought you were comparing the distance from Belgrade to Zagreb to distance from Belgrade to Tampere as it would be the same short distance. I now got your point and thanks for your support 🙏 It really was a long journey and not only the ride but also all the paperwork etc, but we finally got our fur baby to move with us. Thank you for your comments and further explanations and support!

All the elegance of a large block of flats with a shopping mall down the centre.
@@tomcarr1358 well… also a quite convenient way to travel between Finland and Sweden. You know these are not cruises riding a circle but just our regular ferries to get to the continent? Meaning that it’s not about shopping but the way of transportation, also for freight as our trucks can’t cross the sea any other way, but yes, these ferries also have pretty nice restaurants to enjoy on a way. Though if you prefer shopping, that’s also possible, yet not my personal interest.
The ferries have always following each other, not because of that terrible Estonia catastrophe. For security reasons. And that is a fact.
@@mattinieminen1296 a lot of safety rules as distance to each other (vicinity), passenger lists etc were tightened after the Estonia accident. Ofc rules have always been strict but Estonia really changed seafaring safety regulations.
I worked for the plan/design 😊

This is Not a AirPort train?
@@DANIELZZITRAINSPOTTING thanks for watching! But before calling something fake please sit down and read carefully. You just didn’t read the description or the comment attached as I asked to do in the caption to get more information. This station is Tikkurila as I mentioned in the video itself. Nothing about those trains currently passing or standing there. Here again the text part: “Coming from Helsinki Airport you can take a train to Helsinki city central. If you continue to other cities you can hop off in Tikkurila railway station and change to long distance trains. This is what I do when I fly to Helsinki and go to my home in Tampere. You can buy a ticket from the vending machine already at the airport railway platform for the long distance trains and you can travel in the local train with the same ticket. If you only go to Helsinki, there is another vending machine on the platform for that ticket. The price is fixed 5 € and for the other cities it depends on the distance, train type and time.” Hope this clarifies it!
If you are wondering what kind of accommodation to choose in Japan, I highly recommend staying in a traditional house. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a ryokan, this one was just a hostel in Kyoto, built in a traditional home. Just remember that these buildings are often quite cold during the winter months. P.S. As I’ve been doing my photo project in Japan, I don’t have much videos from there, but check out our blog to see more content from this amazing country. The blog is with the same name than this channel Pleasebeseatedfortakeoff.com
In case you wonder what I’m saying in this video, the word is “papukaija” which means parrot in Finnish. That’s because this Japanese robot cat was repeating everything we said 😄
