Magnavox Stereo Deluxe Record Player Repair (Part 1)
This unit actually sounds better than the solid state side firing speakers Magnavox you refurbed later in your video postings. I wonder what a unit like this would sound with speaker upgrades (an air suspension woofer with a tweeter included to give better clarity; as well as a magentic cartridge (you'd need a pre amp for that). I'm betting the sound would be about 30 to 50% better (and with the correct stylus balancing, a whole lot easier on your records). Nicely done. It's hard where I live to find these units without the rexine being completely trashed.
I'm more interested in your playing than I am the instrument, cool as it is. You've got a great ear for sure...perfect pitch here too.
My one sounds really nice with the standard pickups, against my Korean 2016 5420 T it is very good, I used it with a jazz band and a swing band recently and it really has a nice clear sound, maybe upgrade the pots and switches to TV Jones but I'm happy with mine. Also I may change the machines to Wilkinson WJ45's look like Kluson ones and work nicely, put them on my Korean one. See the upgrade at edvanmeyer.blogspot.com/2016/08/guitar-reviews-for-you-gretsch-5420t.html
I put a Bigsby B6C on my one and also strap locks and a Vanson roller saddle ti=unamatic, be aware the strap button posts into the wood of the guitar are LEFT HAND threads unlike the Korean and Japan Gretsches which use Right hand 'normal' threads on the post screws into the body.
that iS a 3 mil needle they are much bigger than a stereo needle
i can sell you one alot cheaper
Man that tank was rough. Going to have to pick up some of those old books now
That car sure is in rough shape.
Some times the momentary switch wears out , test the switch. I had one and that is how I repaired it. Great Video 👍
What an absolutely beautiful instrument. Your playing is amazing. Fantastic video, Thank you for the beautiful music 🎶. You are one talented individual on many levels. 👍❤

@ wow, I don’t know what size this one is. Are they all interchangeable, or are there different sizes on certain models?
Are you gonna do any sort of review on it?
@@jeremybaker195 I’d like to eventually. I’m known for modifying my guitars. Just wanted to upload some footage of this guitar completely stock before I tear into it.
for the 78 needle a pfanstiehl 352-s3 is fairly easy to find on ebay
i like the tone of an ev 26
that must have the same amplifier as that 1964 portable in the suitcase portable you restored in 2022
good to see you back
Ho! Ho! Ho! Hey there. A very special Merry Christmas to you and your family. I hope it becomes very special for you all.😀Ho! Ho! Ho!😀
I wore out one of the original, yea, i'm old :).
The tape mechanism might be the same as the realistic TR-801. On the backside of the motor between the motor and the back wood panel is a u shaped bracket with a circuit board behind the bracket, small board like an inch by inch. You have to remove the u shaped bracket and There’s a speed adjust pot on the circuit board.
@@ronwilgenbusch1961 idk because the TR-801 has the plastic head bracket and this does not.
@ the TR-802 has the plastic bracket, I have one that I fixed. I believe the 801 was still the metal bracket.
@ I had an 802 years ago but I’m not sure about the 801, but that’s interesting
@ thats a nice unit, hope you can get it figured out. Btw, on the plastic bracket for the Craig. On my tr-802 I used an xacto knife to put small vertical slots(just enough to let wire sit down into, not to deep) on all 4 corners of the head bracket, then wrapped thin wire around the screw on top, and then down and around the bracket back to the screw on the top. Used superglue on the wire at the corners to keep it in place in the cut slots.
@ interesting. I tried using a wire on mine but it’s still unstable
Many times the tuning issues with that vibrola is at the nut. Filing a slight angle at the back of the nut toward each stings tuner post helps quite a bit. Especially the D and G strings because they break at a more extreme angle behind the nut then the other strings. They don't return to pitch if they are binding. Keeping the nut slots lubed at each string change works well, too.
You did a very professional job on this replacement. And saved yourself a good sum of money. I am the same I have always done my own repair work on my vehicles. @@vtjmproductionsusa2390 it was until it got scrapped

i have an amplifier just like that one but never could get it to work right
I can’t find a working one to buy. I would really like to add one to my collection of decks. The blue color is sharp.
Ugg! White lithium grease dries out and turns to soap. NEVER use it on a record changer. Synthetic Super Lube or even red synthetic grease sparingly.
Dude, get a tripod.
I know.
I Love This color !!
My Chibson almost feels better to play
Very good video well explained. Thanks. You did a great job! Keep up the good work.👍
I would check the tube heater circuit voltage.. tubes look a little to bright. Other than that great video, very nice unit 👍
those speakers look better than the ones in a Magnavox console i once had
Damn that really bad!
Good finds
Thanks for commenting. Hope you enjoyed the video.
That "orange goop" is a form of locktite car manufacturers use, its there so the bolt doesn't become loose over time, its mainly used during assembly at the factory, its good stuff.
Is there a video that shows how to remove the assembly without tearing shit up? This was useless. Thanks anyway.😕
