Botany Basics - Part One of a Botanical Series
Read more about this event at cei.sonoma.edu/botany-basics
The world of plants surrounds us, providing us with food to eat, materials to provide us shelter and air to breathe. All creatures depend upon plant life. We take it for granted at our own peril. In order to protect and sustain this life-giving organism, we need to understand it. To understand it, we need to study it, feel it in our hands, smell it, turn it over, marvel at its complexity and beauty.
In this series, you will be offered a rapid overview of the structure of plants in a one-hour online tutorial. A week later, you will have the option to venture into the field to learn the basics of botanical illustration, a key tool to learning about a plant through careful observation and drawing
Speaker:
Wendy St. John is an ecologist, teaching in both the Biology, and Geography, Environment and Planning departments at Sonoma State University. She is currently teaching Restoration Ecology. After deeply studying botanical illustration, she is eager to share this life skill with us all.

Fire safe - and those plants quickly burning - shouldn't necessarily meaning identified plants are productive going forward. What many of those have as a history of survival - and feeding newly emerging wildlife. It's likely important to acknowledge that our fire years of collecting data are being more immediate and compressed.

This was wonderful! I know that beaver ponds are great places to see dragonflies, as have seen many species at our urban pond in Napa. While these green darners are ovipositing, you can see an orange flash go by, which was a flame skimmer! Thanks very much for this presentation! ua-cam.com/video/sCc6-iLRCyI/v-deo.html

We have internships and student assistant positions available for students the opportunity to earn credit with us, and we love volunteers of all ages!
