"Minnesota nice" is a myth The only people that claim Minnesota nice are those born and raised here, and they just don't know any better. The homes in the suburbs are terrible. 90% or more of the homes are split levels. Which eventually Is causing seniors to have to leave their homes because they cannot navigate stairs anymore. No one builds actual ramblers with no stairs plus split levels In my opinion are the ugliest homes ever built

Hi as someone who has been in MN For over 20+ Yrs, it's people like the you {this guy} that has made the Twin cites Mlps/stp the way it is {for better or worst} more bad. The homelessness and rent and housing is all do to land lords and realtors like this guy here. thy come in and buy up homes that people of color take there time and money to build up and make a place fun to go to and when people start to go thy {realtors} come in and buy up all the homes and jake up the prices on everything. then the rent for apartments go way up . And then landlords and realtors ask the city for help,so that thy doesn't have to pay taxes and still rise the rent way up. Than the cola in the city and state is way higher then other states near by.so when people have no where to go and no homes or apartments thy do crimes and are homeless. so this guy is full of shit and this video is fucked up.I know MN has many things that are not right but this and videos like are bullshit. It's meanly of people like this guy and there greed. and the fact that thy do not care about the twin cities or the state of MN.This guy and anyone that makes videos about mpls or Mn about it's crime or it's taxes who are a landlord or realtor eta should know you're not helping you're the one's getting people's tax money to help with the homelessness and housing on you're end becouse you guy's keep telling the cities and the state that you as landlords and realtors can keep the market fair and open to all{But YOU NEVER DO}you just keep making rent more and more higher and say it's taxes{but it's YOU}when you tell us the renters when you jack up the rent.the cities and the state have to make taxes higher to get you're lovely tax cut,how do you think the cities make the money back. and so crime go's up and the prices so things do too.if you really live here you see that the city is not some shit hole hell show, where people die every 10mins and the people hate you and not help you if you down and out.taxes are high to meet the needs of the people, to keep the cities and state from looking like hell. The people needs are not always meet very time very budget but you keep at it till you get it right. homelessness is not as high as it is in other major cities/states with taxes as high as MN/mpls-stp,crime,water,air,streets,highways eta .so MN puts it taxes to good use. so some snow and moody people is not that much to put with, but give it time and you'll find you're people. high taxes are not the best and high rent is really not good but if anyone who wants to look for the root of all that eels MN and the twin cites look to people like this guy in this video and videos like this. and know that the first step to stop crime is housing,if people ...families can afford a place to live thy will have something to live for something to fight for ,someplace to go to after a long day of work and something past down to there kids.Guys like this one in this video and others miss the mark ,of way we have homelessness and crime and high taxes, for thy are the root of it.

You seem like a nice guy but you've grossly oversimplified the political attitude of Minneapolis / St. Paul (MN in general). I noticed that your comments about the "negatives" are declared in insecure question tone rather than matter-of-fact forthright statements. But I appreciate that being a realtor (and a Minnesotan), it wouldn't behoove you to highlight the negatives. But the unvarnished truth is (I am very unMinnesotan in this regard), Minnesota, for all of its beautiful waterways, has become an unmitigated filthy toilet. Corrupt politics, unreported hourly carjackings, assaults, murders, illegal migrants and trannies granted political power for which our tax dollars have zero. Follow Mpls Crime Watch for *real* news. Born and raised -- 56 years. "Minnesota Nice" has been torched long before the city was burned at the stake.

Much of Edina is built on swampy wetlands. Go west of France Avenue, and it's landfill where horses used to get sucked into the wetlands and couldn't get out. A 10,000 bison was found when a parking lot was being expanded having been sucked into the muddy land base.

Schools are generally what you make of them. My daughters went to a school system with a bad reputation. One is a surgeon, one is a professional and coach. Too many Americans say they value education but pit little effort into getting one. We have devalued education for the last forty to fifty years in the interest of cheap labor.

Our taxes are higher . We have much more and better public services, parks, etc. My brother moved to Florida for several years and said though Florida doesn’t have income taxes but they ultimately got their money other ways. Then with that they have poor services. It is not “too cold to snow”. That is not how snow works. He said at one point there wasn’t that much snow, then he cites snow as a reason not to live here?!?! Winter is great here. I always wish we got more snow!

Our state taxes are so high because the majority of it goes to low income. MN has been said to have the best welfare in the country since the 80s and everyone around the country travels here just to get on it. Not to mention all the Somalis that come here. They get everything handed to them. Go walk into the public housing building downtown and you'll see all Somali. There's a reason they all have nice cars. Yet the homeless rates of MN natives is high...sad.

Minnesotans are the rudest people I've ever dealt with, and I've been to 3rd world countries and bombed by insurgents. Worst drivers in the world too, no one born here should be allowed to drive. Place is full of dodge rams with left front end damage thanks to being one of the drunkest states. If my job hadn't moved me here, we'd still be South where the food is seasoned.

It’s a Scandinavian thing. Superficially polite and non confrontational with strangers/deep conversations with people they’ve known for a long time. When it comes to not making friends later in life, it’s also a funny extension of politeness: they have all the friends they need and have no room in their schedule for more. If they took you on as a new friend they would have to give less time to someone else which is ‘rude,’ OR they wouldn’t be able to devote much time to you as a ‘new’ friend which is also ‘rude.’ Things are much the same in Sweden/Norway etc.

OK, lots of comments about "Minnesota Nice." As someone who grew up in MN and moved to Boston in my 20s, and am now back in MN, here's my comparison. In Minnesota, people are friendly from the start. That doesn't mean they want to be friends and hang out... It just means they're being pleasant. In Massachusetts, I literally had someone cross the street mid-block after I made eye contact and said hello. People are avoidant and cold there, skeptical of everyone around them. Now, once you get to know people in Massachusetts, they're just as friendly as anywhere else. They just don't "waste time" on pleasantries. Since we interact with strangers on a daily basis when out running errands, etc, I enjoy Minnesota's Friendliness. But I do agree that it can be hard to differentiate between stranger-friendly, and friend-friendly. Did that make sense? Oh, and if you think Minnesota drivers are aggressive... Go drive in Massachusetts for a bit and let me know how that goes.

  • @themonotonist

I have a lot of experience with the Minnesota Nice thing. I've lived here my whole life, and have enjoyed MN for the most part, except it can be extremely difficult to make NEW friends. I'm in my mid 30s now, and am more of an introverted person who has never had a consistent friend group. I recently looked into what people from my high school and college graduating classes are doing these days. To my surprise, a very large portion of them married people they met in high school, still have the same friend group from high school, and even settled down and bought a house in the SAME CITY as their school! As others have said, people generally have nice exteriors, will go to great lengths to avoid arguments and discomforts, and we're actually one of the most charitable states in the country. However, trying to grow a friendship or relationship with an MN native beyond the surface level is going to be next to impossible. They're content only having their same small friend group for the rest of their lives, and will (politely) push away or ignore anyone trying to enter their circle
